ONE LE good experience

After driving around dozens of towns in Florida for a week I can say that the TT One LE works great. All the fun features of the various models are nice but when driving all I really needed was the clear voice telling me when to turn and the display showing me the turn.

I did switch to night mode when driving at night, occationally used POI to find a location and used "Avoid Roadblock" to get around an accident.

I imagine the more expensive models are nice but I don't think they would have gotten me to my locations any better.

That's what I've been saying! Some people complain that it doesn't give the "most correct" route, but I have said that the main benefit is having a voice tell you where to turn, and YOU CAN"T GET LOST! I'm with you!:)

I've got to say that, for me, Florida was a mixed experience with the TomTom. Going from downtown Ft Lauderdale to the Mariott North, TT took us through several rundown residential neighborhoods instead of staying on the main roads. Another thing it did was try to route us through Miami to get to Naples instead of using a more direct route (18 miles out of your way is a significant detour). It also isn't great when finding the best POI. The example is trying to find a gas station near the airport to catch a 6 am flight. I'm not saying that the TT isn't useful, it's that you should use mapquest first or carry a map along if directions are really important.

Better yet, use google maps, customize your route, convert it to an .itn file, and transfer the file to your Tom Tom!:)

I do apolagize for raining on your parade and don't mean to be spouting sour grapes. Just don't want to echo a totally glowing report when I only had a mediocre experience with my TomTom during a recent Florida trip. It also had a heck of a time with addresses when I was in WallaWalla, WA this last week. Again, like others have echoed, it's nice to have but you will not always have nice experiences.

I actually did mapquest addresses for restaurants to make sure I wasn't taking clients too far out of the way but didn't tale the time to conver and transfer files.

We drove over 1000 miles and took mostly secondary roads. We also had a MIO GPS which we compared with the TT One LE and it gave the same directions except for a few minor differences where the TT was better. I don't know if the routes were optimum but it got us where we wanted to go with very little effort. We did use a map occasionally when changing plans and picking new towns to go to.

The TT can be set to shortest distance or quickest route or avoid toll roads and that will make a difference in directions.
