Seems smart. My guess is that the per-device margin (after paying the retailer their cut) isn't as large as the map margin (which Tomtom keeps to itself). So the more map subscriptions they sell, the better.
If tomtom retrofits Navcore 8.4 (the one rumored to be on the new ONE/XL models) onto the older model ONE/XLs, they could make huge profits just by convincing people to upgrade their maps to an IQ compatible one.
So in Europe/Austrailia, the only Major difference between the ONE and GO lines is now HD traffic and larger Map Capacity? Without HD in the North America, I'm not 100% convinced that NA will get the new ONE-IQ, since there would be little reason difference between a ONE and a GO.
