something happend when i was updating my tomtom, called tech support the walked me through formating my unit but the problem i have is the memory only shows 83.7mb of total memory for my unit, should be 1gig. after the format i installed the applications , now shows 17.3 mb installed and 66.5 free. the map needs 854.7 to install. so any ideas on what to do next??

When you were formatting the unit, were you given an option to format as fat32? I would try again with the format using that type (fat32) and then restore your backup again.

Okay, next try the Clear Flash tool found here.

Download and run it 3 times.

Then, disconnect your unit properly from the computer using the Hardware Disconnect icon. Reset the unit by holding the power button for about 10 seconds. Connect to the computer and use Explorer to right click on the unit and see what the properties show for the size of the drive and what is available.

still the same .. 17.9 MB used
65.8 MB free
83.9 MB total capacity

i just dont understand what could of happened to the 1GB i had.

Well, I suspect it has to do with a faulty bootloader misallocating space on the unit but the mod experts including mvl and canderson will have to get involved in this thread.

I am thinking there is no software solution available now................

Have you had the device connected to a MAC recently durring any of the messing around? - Mike

First thing - hold the power button forever until it shows a black debug screen. Let us know what shows up next to the bootloader line.

Second, the One 130's flash controller "shrinks" the drive if it finds bad sectors.

Did you recently disconnect the Tomtom without pressing the blue "disconnect" button in HOME? If so, that may have caused "bad sectors" that are not physical defects. If so, try formatting the drive over and over again with quickformat disabled. Sometimes the flash controller will realize the drive isn't physically bad and re-grow the size.

i was updating it and my computer turned off. when i hold the power button it says ( bootloader
S5.5011 Clist # 161127 Gcc3 ) i have done the format thing about 20 times and it still says Capacity 83.7 MB. anymore ideas?

No further ideas, likely the a hardware fault. Try a different computer and different USB cable to make sure it's the Tomtom that's bad.

If the Tomtom's bad, then if it's under warranty call Tomtom phone support and they'll probably replace it.

its not under warranty , customer service says im pretty much screwed, they just want me to buy a new one. so if its a hardware problem can it be fixed? does anyone know where i can have it repaired at?

The internal memory is soldered on the pcb on that model, if you're handy with electronics you could try opening it up and swapping the memory chip.

But Tomtom ONE or EASE models are often under $100 these days, I doubt you'd get a repair shop to charge that little for a memory swap.
