Ok, just to document this for others. My 125 was bought at Christmas 2008. It shipped with firmware 8.014. The operate my One would not work from home nor would the route planning. Here's how we fixed it.
1 Make a backup
2. go to remove items.
3. select application
4. delete it
5. disconnect device and re-connect
6. update.
At this point it updated to 7.x
7.update again
It is now running v 8.01and everything works. And no more updates appear on home now
