Could someone verify something for me, do the 720 and the 920 ship with NA maps installed or US and Canada maps installed?

Thanks

When I got my TT 720 unit in September, it shipped with the NA 7.05 map, which I upgraded to 7.10. Don't accept the USA & Canada map as it has much less stuff on it and, amongst other things, Voice Recognition won't work with it, even if you upgrade to USA & Canada 7.10.

Not sure what you mean by "don't accept the USA & Canada map as it has much less stuff on it" - compared to what? Although "newer isn't always better," personally, I have not compared older map to the newer one...

I bought my TT 720 last week (sticker on the cradle suggest it was made or shipped on 11/02/07) and it came with older firmware (7.220) & maps (705); however, as soon as I connected it to TT Home (PC application), both firmware and maps were updated to the most current-up-to-date versions (free).

Not sure where or why you are having a problem with VR (voice recognition), but you might want to check out this thread (https://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=4741&page=20)

The USA & Canada map is 900 megs; the NA map (7.10) is double the size. While much of the increase is due to files allowing for speech in the various states and Canada, the NA map also has more poi's and map detail.

I'm not having VR problems, but those with the USA & Canada will. The functionality won't work with that map.

I'm sorry! I misread your previous post.. I was under impression that with the new updates, VR won't work and that is not as good as the old map.

Nevertheless, if you buy TT 720, you can update it with the newest maps/firmware for free (given that you do that within 30 days of original purchase). So you shouldn't have any problems...

the 720 and 920 maps all come with North America maps. The only question is which version and build does it come with.

How come ours came with North America and Guam? The one we exchanged at BestBuy and the one we got as a result has those 2. it's also 7.5

Can I delete Guam's map for more room?

You tell us. Ever planning to drive there? ;)

Yeah, dump it but back it up on your hard drive .... just in case.
