Noobie update q's software, firmware, and of course maps

Hi: Just got a new ttone le. Was reading through the threads and had a few q's that i didn't see answered anywhere. First, Does the Tomtom home software work better on xp or vista? Any reason to make it resident in one OS versus the other? Software updates work ok on each?

Second, I have an le, so I think i have the nav 7 firmware on the device and so don't want to lose it in any wrong headed updates. Anyone have any tips on need for or good update pathways for it?, I have version 7.13 on it now and don't know of any reason to change it at this point.

Last, Maps. I guess I should take advantage of the 30 day window to update my version 705. Do I have to Update to version 710 us/canada or can I get some version of North america?

Is there a website that lists the upgrades and changes between versions? I couldn't find anything on the Tt.com site.

If I don't do the update could I use the "latest map guarantee" to get some Europe maps??? That would be nice. guess there is a sale on too?

I have XP and have not had any problems using Home, there is another thread that another user is having minor problems with Vista, when he connects his 1LE vista wants to format it, we think because the TT's are FAT. He just clicks no and everything works fine, so you will have to decide on what is easier for you.

TT Home will only update what is available for the connected device, I haven't noticed any problems with getting the wrong firmware or software.

If you use Home to update your map, which I believe you have to, your only choice will be US/Canada and Guam V710, you don't get an option to pick anything else.

Not sure about a version history file, haven't seen one, but haven't looked either.

You can buy Europe maps and put it on a SD card to have both, but it won't be part of the free upgrade.

I don't think i'll bother updating the firmware since the Le i have has the 7.13 nav7 already on it, this was an October update. From what I read, the latest update, that came out in nov, is only a minor update for the ones, but brought a couple other tt models upto date with Nav 7.

Guess I'll try the map update, that goes on the internal memory? I'd like to get the europe and austrailia maps as well, wonder if they have a bulk discount???

thanks again, the le is working good so far, may use it for awhile as is, before i update the maps. It seems to pick up sats faster than my Garmin and I have even gotten 5 inside my house where my other gps' don't pick up a thing. Nice.
