Noob Q : How to set power functions

Ok after trawling through menu's I found the Power off option. But I think my TOMTOM XL IQ is faulty as it won;t detect that the external power has come on and power on automatically like my Garmin ONE used to. For some bloody reason I have to hold the button for 3 seconds every time I start the engine . AHHHHH. And if I forget i don;t get the BEEP BEEP for the camera warnings.........

Some of us don't experience your problem as we always remove the TomTom from view and don't leave it visible, lest we will find a broken window and two TomToms when we get back.
Any time we plug in the adapter it becomes automatic to switch on the device.
