No Voice Preferences on 130-S

I just got a 130-S and I'm not sure it came with the right software. The version that's installed (8.017) has a different menu structure. Under Change Preferences, there is a choice for Change Voice but not Voice Preferences, as a result there is no text-to-speech options.

I have connected the unit to the Home software to update it and it says it is up-to-date. What's up with this and how do I get the right software installed?

As far as I can tell, the proper version should be 8.010 which leads me to think that 8.017 is a hacked Navcore version. If I am correct, there's no telling what impact that version will have on the unit's functionality.

Are you selecting a computer voice under Change Voices? If so, does that yield any positive results?

If not, I would suggest this:

1. Make a complete backup of your unit's contents using Explorer, not Home. ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

2. Using Explorer, delete all the loose files ,NO folders or their contents, in the root of the unit.

3. Start Home and it should detect an application is missing and offer to download the latest. Accept and install.

Does that make a difference?

And .... are you sure you have the 'S' model? Use Explorer and look for either a LoquendoTTS folder on your unit or a VocalizerTTS folder on your unit.

This afternoon, I followed the support help instructions for removing and reinstalling my application. It now says it is on 8.010. I will try your suggestion next.

As to selecting a "computer voice", none of the voices say computer. I downloaded Samantha and Tom and neither show up as a choice. When I look at what's installed via Home2, it says that voice will not work with my unit.

There is a VocalizerTTS folder but I'm wondering if that was only installed when I downloaded those two voices.

The box says 130-S and that was how it was listed on Amazon. It does speak, but just does not say street names. Also, the icons and the menu structure is different from what the online help shows. Under preferences, there is not a selection for Voice Settings, it only has Change Voice on the second page.

Is there any chance that there was a version sold as 130S but without the ability to speak street names? If that is the case, is there a way to get the correct software version? What is the current version for a 130S anyway?

Try a reset on your unit. (I think for your model that means holding the power button for 15-20 seconds).

Did the reset thing already.

Additional information. Once it gets to version 8.010 of the software, it does not update to more recent version.

The first two characters of the serial are PB, if that means anything.

There IS an official Navcore version 8.080 BUT for the 130 series, only with the first two letters starting with: PN, PO, PP, PQ

As far as I can see, the latest version for other models IS 8.010 so, I don't know what to tell you.

I guess you'll have to call support again on this issue unless someone else here can chip in with better advice.

Sorry.

I did some more digging and the PB serial number belongs to a 130 series rather than the 130S. The unit was purchased from Amazon and was sold as a "factory refurbished" model 130S. Looks like someone either stuck a 130S label on a 130 box or substituted a 130 for the 130S.

I've just contacted Amazon to tell them that something is rotten with this.
