Application # : 8.350
GPS Model# : TomTom GO 920T

Hey folks,

I haven't done an upgrade in like over a month, and today when I hooked up my TomTom to my PC, everything seemed fine; in that no error messages appeared & TomTom HOME recognized the connection to my GPS.

I attempted to do some updates however it advised me "Not Items Available".

I find that very odd after a little over a month. Yet, when I do the updates it appears to be searching for updates but gives me a message saying I'm all up to date. Over a month, and there are no updates? What gives?

Also, I updated my TomTom HOME (FYI... I experienced the no updates issue even before I updated TomTom HOME). I also noticed for some reason I'm no longer able to access the "Operate my GO" & "Backup and Restore" features in the TomTom HOME software any more. Why is that?

Am I wrong in thinking that's a little odd?

It's not a little odd, it's alot odd......

First, try a pin reset on your unit. Then reconnect to the computer and start Home. Any improvement?

If not, uninstall Home and re-install. Does that help at all?

By the way, even if Backup/restore becomes available, it is STRONGLY suggested you never use Home for such operations. For more on that see this link

Hmmmm.....

I uninstalled & reinstalled TomTom HOME, then did a hard reset (on the device) but I'm still getting the same result.

Any other ideas?

What happens when you use Home's menu to check for application updates? (since you should be offered an update to 8.351)

Well.....

It doesn't offer me to upgrade to 8.351. Since I reset it, it's reverted back to 8.350 so I know something is definitely wrong here. :(

I've even gone as far as doing both a hard & soft reset on the GPS unit itself, uninstalled, rebooted & reinstalled TomTom HOME. Then I checked my device manager, removed the GO gps icon (for some reason, there's 2 of them which might be the problem). Then I reinstalled the GPS unit and the drivers automatically reinstalled themselves.

But something isn't right here. It won't update itself. As I type this, I'm on hold with TomTom's customer service for over 10 mins (haven't spoken to an agent yet).

This is getting kinda frustrating.

OK....

So here's the deal!

I just got off the line with a very friendly customer / tech. support representative from TomTom by the name of April. Apparently they're doing some server upgrades which is affecting download capabilities.

What I don't understand is why nobody else seems to be having the same problems. She said it should be ok by later this evening. I'll try it again at 10:00 pm E.S.T.

Anybody else having this problem?

Bump

Well,

After hooking it up to another PC, I'm able to download the GPS Quick Fix but the application version won't update past version 8.350.

I KNOW there's 8.351 but it won't offer to update it. Something is seriously wrong here.

Anybody?

Well....

...after talking with a TomTom representative, it turns out this was all user error

Turns out I was updating both my actual GPS unit & my memory card when it came to the "Applications" update. TomTom GPS's & TomTom HOME will allow you to do that (and I didn't even realize that I had done this) however when you update the "Applications" on both of these, it will create the problems I listed above. The TomTom representative advised me to remove the "Application" (ver. 8.351) from my memory card and leave it on my GPS's internal memory/hard drive. Sure enough, this worked!

Anyways, just posted this last final post in case anybody has the same problem down the line (they can refer to this post).

Cheerio!
