TomTom one 3rd edition
I have just formatted my TomTom one 3rd edition using command prompt.

After the format it said I have only got 128 MB of internal memory when I should have the whole 980 MB of free space.

A TomTom one 3rd edtion is advertised as having 1 GB of internal memory (no SD card slot)

But anyway the point is I want to know why there is used space when ther are no files shown in the drive folder.

I formatted the drive as FAT 32 (not FAT or FAT 16)

I currently am using 849MB of space after this format why?

It's like there invisible data which Windows XP sp3 cannot read or pick up this isn't an issue with my Tom Tom in an issue with the Formatting once I over come that the Tom Tom will be working fine.

the command to use btw is - format J: /FS:FAT32 in command prompt

I have been getting more space whilst continuously Formatting the TomTom drive but only in small amounts.

I have now managed to free up 55% of my memory using MS-Dos but at the moment I am unable to completly free up the space on my TomTom

It is now done I only have 4.00 kilobytes of used space and 978 Megabytes of Free space

Are you sure he TT1-3 is compliant with FAT-32? I know my TT1-2nd edition is NOT FAT-32 compliant, and so must format as FAT-16.

Well my Tom Tom is compliant with FAT-32 and as I was aware my Tom Tom would not work being formatted with a FAT-16 file system.

I spent two days researching this not only on TomTom forums but other forums to do with formatting HDD's and USB drives.

My TomTom is a 3rd edition I would have thought it would be the same as yours but I have not looked up specific information on your model.

FAT-32 is the recommended file system for most SD cards. It seems strange that your SD card will not work with FAT-32.

I don't even have the option to format using FAT-16 on my computer.

My choices are FAT or FAT-32. Have not tried formatting through MS-DOS using FAT-16.

Test your TomTom 2nd edition to see if it works using the FAT file system.

Since it seems you can access the drive, would you run this command on it: chkdsk /f, please.

And provide feedback.

Thanks.

There was a post a month or so ago where someone said that when they formatted a tt one, they didn't get the full space initially.

They had to reformat it repeatedly, and the space grew each time. When it stopped growing, they had the full 1gig.

The whole 1 gig was usable once they had it.

Right click on "My computer" and click on "Manage" then go to "Disk Management"

What does disk management say about your device?

Yes that was me :) I had to do it continuously in order to get the full 1 Gig of my TomTom one 3rd Editions internal memory.

And your SD card my only work using FAT 16 my TomTom dosn't use an SD card so im asuming certain SD cards may only run using specific File systems. READ UP ABOUT Formatting SD CARD's

I want to up this sucker since i have the same problem.
The more i use this piece of shi* the more i understand how crappy TomTom is.
490 MB totally, and i've format it like 10 times. Both with Win XP and Win 7
Only FAT or FAT32 is available and yes, i've tried them both to and it still show 490 MB.

A quick question.
Is all One 3 ED. delivered with 1 gig?
Here's what mine says http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/2562/img0533tl.jpg

No, they arent!

In the UK the "regional" model has 1/2 GB and the "Europe" model has 1GB

From your screen grab, yours has1/2 GB internal memory (501760 MB)
So I'd say 490MB available after formatting sounds about right.

Maybe not such a piece of sh*t after all..
