No Maps Found

hey everyone. Just got my TOMTOM XL 330s. I was trying to update my map and accidentally erased the maps it came with. So now when i downloaded the newer US & Canada maps, it wants me to activate it by putting in some promotional code. But I don't have any code. Is there anyway for me to get the newest maps or at least the older maps my TOMTOM came with. Because I can't use my GPS at all in this state. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply dhn. I followed your instructions up to part two. I went into C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents \ TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\ map\, but there is no map in that map folder. It's empty. So I can't go on to step 3. please help

If it's not in the Complete subfolder, the new map never got downloaded to the computer (The process for any **updated** map is that it grts dl from TT to the computer and then it gets installed on the unit.)

My first thought would be to try to download the map again. Make sure you are using a direct connection to the computer (rather than a wireless) when you go for the download.

Once I DL the new map won't i still need to activate it though? Because I don't have any activation codes or anything.

If you do succeed in downloading the new map's cab file, then the instructions in the link I provided in my earlier post will work because one of the files in the cab file is a second cab file imbedded and in THAT one is a file you put in the specific map folder on your unit (once that one has been extracted) that 'tells' TomTom that the map is properly activated.

The key is to download the map file in the first place.

The Home application handles all the map activation side of things and downloads a specific file for your device that will activate the map, you don't need to enter any codes etc these days - Mike
