No Maps Found!

I connected my TT ONE XL . S and performed the updates it found. During the update the power went out and the unit powered off as well.

The unit would not longer boot, it kept flashing a red X. I tried a number of things suggested in the forums when the power came back, but the best I could do was get the base software and voices installed but no maps. My unit came with the USA_Canada map.

The sad part is I recently re-loaded my computer and do not have a backup. Is the only solution really to buy a new USA_Canada map?? (I am not going to do that out of principle). Is there really no way to get the unit back in the way it was purchased?

I mean what's the point of all this registration, TT Home, and associating a unit if they can't provide a standard download of the image?

The unit was bought for me as a gift at x-mas and an extended warranty was purchased with it. I am fed up, I am going to exchange it ....

Have you tried calling TT support ?
I am sure if you don't have your maps saved in your TomTom Home files they will reload them for you to download . You may have to fax them an original purchase recept.

Your map may also be in your computer where you have your TomTom Files saved ??

So many of the posts here are because people do not follow the instructions to do a backup before updating.

At this point, I would first try doing a pin reset and see if it comes back up completely - it should not have deleted the maps. Also, connect it to you computer, and with windows explorer, see if the map folder and maps are on the device.

If not, open home and log in to your account (IF you had set one up), then have it check for updates - it may just offer to download the original maps (it has for me).

If this does not work out, definitely call tech support. If you have never set up an account with TomTom linked to your device, be sure you do so first. They will put the map on your account for downloading. They might ask to verify ownership dates - since this was a gift, they might ask for documentation.

You should not have to purchase an new map - don't even think about that being necessary.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I had set up an account and had even backed up the unit, but I reloaded my computer and forgot about it and lost the backup. So no way to restore from my computer.

I had also set up an account initially, so I thought that the maps would be available through that but no such luck. No maps there either (I think it only keeps maps you have bought there).

I took the unit back to the store where it was bought, after they tried all the same stuff I did they checked with TomTom and said that they were authorizing an over the counter exchange (which is very nice of TT and I appreciated very much).

However they no longer had the ONE XL . S, so they replaced it with the XL 330, which is the unit TT replaced the ONE XL . S with on the market. So now I have a functioning unit that is in some ways a downgrade (32Mb of memory vs. the 64Mb on the ONE XL . S, and no SD slot on the XL either).

I'm not sure why TT replaced the ONE XL . Swith the XL 330 but it seems to have no advantage over the ONE XL . S other than it's a little slimmer and has a different mounting bracket, the rest of the features appear to be identical.
