No maps found issue

Whenever I start my TomTom up now, it continues asking me to select a language, set up the time, as if I am setting it up for the first time. Then it continues until it says "No maps found!"

Now here's the thing. I was thinking about purchasing the recently released new North America map that is listed for about 89 dollars from the TomTom HOME program.

If I purchased this map, would my device be able to read the map correctly and work the way it is suppose to?

Are there any other solutions to this problem?

Are you capable of seeing what map do you have currently and what application version? (tap the satellite bars on the unit to see the version of the firmware. Tap the version number to see the map installed and the version number).

Have you tried a pin reset on your unit? Does that help?

Also, try the Clear Flash tool found here.

For the 'no map found', look here.

I would hold off getting the new map till the application problem is resolved.

Thanks for your response. I am unable to get my GPS to display any map at all. The farthest I can get it to is right after I select the voice to use, the next screen says "No maps found." As I said before it's acting as if it is being installed for the first time each time I turn it on.

I tried reinstalling the entire program and reformatting the drive and I have the same issue.

I can't click on any satellite bars as they never appear. I can connect the device to my computer, and under "Show contents of my GO" it shows one application. It says the application I have is version 8.302. There are no maps at all though.

If by pin reset you mean hitting the reset button underneath the device, yes I have tried that to no avail.

Tried the flash tool, didn't seem to help at all. Same problem with no map.

Can you see the contents of your unit using Explorer? If so, do you see a specifc map folder with many files in them (NA_2GB)? If you see the folder but not many files, the next question is did the map come with your unit or did you upgrade it?

If you upgraded it, it SHOULD be on your computer in a compressed format in the location defined in Home's, Tools, Default folder locations for downloads, maps.

If it is there, you can try (using Explorer) to unzip the contents into the folder North_America_2GB on your unit.

If none of the above is feasible, guess you better call support at 866-486-6866.

If I gain access to another TomTom, is it possible to take the working maps from that one and transfer it over to my TomTom, and how?

They are different versions, not sure if that matters.

All TomTom maps are keyed to the serial number of the unit for which they were supplied, so no, no transfer is possible.

Your consistent lack of satellite bars keeps me thinking there's something far more substantially broken, though. The fact that it refuses to store startup data makes it sound very much like a problem with the internal flash. No SD card, right?

Correct. As I said, everytime I startup my TomTom it is acting as if it were brand new out of the box trying to set itself up. I can never get to a screen where it shows any roads etc. Once I choose which voice, it then proceeds to a blank screen telling me no maps found.

maps

First let me say that what I say may NOT be correct to your unit but what worked with my 920. I had to reformat my drive also. After this format I went to the tom tom backup folder. After a few clicks on this folder you should get to the download folder which may have more then one dowload of the map. I deleted this folder totally. Then I disconnected the tom tom. They I reconnected tom tom home to the computer. When it starts up one of things to download here should be the map that you were using. You should download this using a WIRED connection to the internet and not use a wireless connection. Download the map and then dsconnect the tom tom again and see if your map boots up. This is just a method that was good for me. You should call phone support if you have any questions.
Secondly instead of downloading the map for that amount of money isn't it cheaper to use the quarterly map update service. Anyway Good luck
