No Map In Go730

Hi Guys..

I've had my 730 Series for a about 8 to 9 months now and I decided to update my maps as it always says I'm 20 weeks without an update..

Now I'm getting No Maps found when I updated the Maps....I went into the North American 2G directory and there aren't any files anymore...(which is what I updated)

and No I didn't backup a thing....I've done this 2 times before and nothing like this happened....How can I get it going again? I tried updating again and still no maps found....

I'm using Windows 7 Pro....if that has anything to do with it after several reads of how the TomTom Home puts files in different paths..

I appreciate all the helpful advice...

Was there any interruption in either the download or the transfer to your unit that you could see? Yeah, I know it takes a while to accomplish, but were you by any chance watching or noted an error when you did come back to look?

I'll confess to never remembering the user pathing on Win7, but on XP, you need to hope your maps are located here:

Documents and Settings \ yourname \ My Documents \ TomTom \ HOME \ Downloads \ complete \ map

You are looking to find a folder in there that starts with "North_America_2GB". If you've updated before, there should at least be old ones in there... perhaps the new one as well. If so, and there are files and folders inside that folder, you can reinstall without problems. If there are multiple "North_America_2GB-x" folders (different suffix), you'll use the most recent one. These folders should have the date upon which you downloaded the updates.

If you've got something there, let us know and we'll get you reinstalled.

No I can't remember the error..yes there was one..

No...There were only 3 files remaining and they were a .meta and two others...

There weren't any files remaining in there as if it cleaned up the folder like some programs do when you install the same program yet a new version? They normally state there is an older version of xxx do you want to delete the old version?

but it just deleted all the files which I found to be odd cause even after an error on a update before it just had an error and left the old files in tact..

I'm just assuming..but prior too the 2nd time on the download it stated that I didn't have enough space for the file in the 1st error and I just closed the error and tried reupdating which resulted in the complete deletion of the files

Thanks for the quick response as well..

I'm not asking about the files remaining on your TomTom, I'm asking about files on your PC that would be there as a result of trying to update your maps this last time or even before.

There weren't any files remaining in there as if it cleaned up the folder like some programs do when you install the same program yet a new version? They normally state there is an older version of xxx do you want to delete the old version?
While Home deletes the map files on your TomTom before trying to load the new ones (it must in order to make space), it never deletes the old folders containing your previous maps on your PC. All Home will do upon subsequent map updates is create another folder called North_America_2GB-x where the "x" is the next integer in the series. Please have another look.

Oooooh....Okay Thanks for Clearing that up Canderson..

I checked the PC TomTom Folder located in my Documents...I looked into the Maps folder and there isn't a Copy of North_America_2GB Folder at all....

There isn't anything at all in my maps Folder...Yet it has the Last Date Modified is the 1/21/2011 which is the date of the Update I tried..
So it did attempt to go into the folder during the download or it did and it was automatically deleted.....So what do I do next?

And thanks again for the Clarity of the saved files..

In this location:
Documents and Settings \ yourname \ My Documents \ TomTom \ HOME \ Downloads \ complete \ map

Do you see a .cab file (NOT a folder) named something like North_America_2GB.cab?

If not, rename (using Explorer) the folder I highlighted above in red to Downloadsold and try to get the download again.

If you DO see a .cab file in that location, then see here:
https://www.tomtomforums.com/genera...nstall-downloaded-map-without-using-home.html

Thanks

I'm renaming Now.....I'll commence to downloading and report back...I really appreciate the help Everyone...

Sorry for the delay but I had to go pay bills...lol

okay...this is the error code I get after renaming the Downloads to DownloadsOld

I'm sorry again for the delay....I just got off work...I just got into the door...

Restarting Home ...

It tells me .....You wouldn't guess....I need to update North America 2GB...lol

So I'm going to try downloading while I sleep If...IF it will download...and I'll be up at 7 am CST to do my morning 5 miles...

I'll update the Thread then...THANKS AGAIN!!..I really appreciate your help

Okay....

I had 2 errors with Server Shut downs from TomTom...
but I finally got the update and my TomTom Go730 is running again..

However....never have I had my keys to continue to stick or press several buttons on their own....lol...I'm trying to select my state and it scrolls down but jumps back to the top on its own...

I try to scroll down Several times and it keeps going back to the top but I finally got it to stick after QUICKLY selecting my state...

Now i'm having the same problem with selecting the city....

Also....when I try typing the city in....it just randomly selects 0000000 zeroes on its own all across the bar....Wow!

Hmmm......

What application is installed on the unit. It should be 8.351. (tap the satellite bars and the next screen shows the version number of the app installed).

If not 8.351, then make an Explorer backup. Next, delete all the loose files in the root of the unit, NO folders or their contents. Connect to Home and install the application offered. If it happens to be less than 8.351, you will need to disconnect the unit PROPERLY from Home, reconnect and again go for an application update.

If you DO have 8.351:

Then try a pin reset on the unit. Does that help?

If not, restore to Factory Defaults. Does that help? (You'll lose all your custom settings, but........)

If not, try the Clear Flash tool found here:
Clear Flash tool

Run it 3 times.........
