Hi All

Having had my TT 1 v3 for a while now I decided to change a few things on it. On doing this (connecting to my PC), virus warning appeared after connection!!!!!! Naturally I removed/or healed these but on doing this I think i could have possibly mixed up certain files, as now there is no gps signal on my unit! Realising this could have caused a problem a returned the files back to my unit but I have no idea if there in the correct folders if at all. Could some please advise me in correcting this matter.

I might even be well of the mark with my thoughts on whats gone wrong!

Has anyone got data on what should be in each folder so I can relocated files correctly or doe's this really matter?

Unfortunatley no back up was made as this was the first connection to my PC so pretty raging at whats happended!

Any suggestings or ideas much appreciated

Is there a folder named Western_Europe or UK&ROI or similar on the device? if there is what is it called and what size is it. This folder contains your map data and is locked to your device, all the other stuff can be downloaded from TomTom at no cost - what anti virus software are you running (at a guess Norton 360) - Mike

Hi Mike

Cheers for the reply!

The uk/rol file is 129mb is this correct?

My Virus software is AVG and all the files that were found to have viruses were returned but instead of sending them back to there original files I have just put them in the root.

Should there be a exe. file in the uk/roi folder?

There needs to be a UK&ROI FOLDER, inside this folder will be a file with an extension of .pna right click this pna file and select Open With/ NotePad can you post the contents of that file so I can see what map version it is, this way I might be able to locate the same map on my PC and post up a full list of which files should be in there - Mike

Here's the info you requested -

ID=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland.pna
1571704785
710
build=1571
id=105832

When you open your TomTom does your AVG spring lots of files with "Virus indentified Worm/Brontok.AG" nearly every folder I go into throws this up.

Also do you know what exe. files should be in the root folder I have

- Data VISTA
- United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
- licences
- voices

Should these be in the root folder or else where?

David

First of all use Windows Explorer to copy everything (folders and files) from the device back to the PC as a precaution before we go to the next step.

Format the TomTom to wipe everything its got loaded (FAT32)

Next you need to download and install WinRar to your PC, you can grab WinRar from This web site for free.

Next is to download and install the Navcore software required for the device to operate, for this you need to click Here for the download and then follow this guide for installation:

Switch the TomTom on and connect it to your PC, if TomTom Home starts up exit the application as Home isn't needed for this.

Double click the file you downloaded from TomTom earlier from the link I provided.

Winrar will fire up, use the mouse to select all files and folders then click "Extract To"

Locate the drive letter associated with your TomTom and click it, make sure the Overwrite mode is selected to "Ask before overwrite", then press "OK"

When the dialogue box pops up saying "Confirm File Replace" click the "Yes To All" button.

Sit back and watch the progress bar, with a good USB connection a Navcore 8,010 installation will take around 5 minutes.

When its finished the update use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the Task Tray and remove the lead from the device.

By now you will have the Navcore operating system back on the device, next we need sort your rather old map files out - I found such a folder on my PC and the following screen shot shows you which files need to be placed in to the folder:

1/ Create a folder named exactly like this (but without the "") "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland" take care you get the letter case correct as it is important, put the following files in to the folder:

When you fire the unit up it should now be working but it probably won't have postcode data supported or voices but these can be downloaded using the TomTom Home application - Quite a lot of work but it should recover your unit - BUT make sure you copy all the files from the device to a single folder on the PC before you go too far as once the map folder is toast its going to cost pound notes to fix - Mike

Have now tried a soft reset! No joy

Have tried removing the TomTom App from device and reinstalled! No joy

Map seem ok on device but can't be sure! When connected to PC the device seems to be picking up sat for the gps but when disconnected from PC it continues to say " Waiting for a valid GPS signal. Why is this?

Mike

On starting back up it wouldn't let copy the contacts exe. file acsess denied

Actually it's happening to alot of file most of them exe.

Do I just need a back up of the Maps folder?

Make a full backup of the "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland" folder to the PC then format the device as FAT32 and follow the advice I posted earlier tonight - Mike

So the device is working and you can see the map but don't have any GPS position?

Take the device outside away from any buildings, switch it on and tap the sat strength meter, on the next screen you will see another smaller sat strength meter on the upper right, tap that and watch - do you see any grey bars moving up and down, if it gets a position lock these will turn Blue, it could take up to 20 minutes but usually its much quicker than that providing the device isn't moving and has a clear view of the sky - Mike

I am also having problem with TomTom GPS Signal. My TT GPS is right out of the box. When I switch it on in New York City (My Office) it is receiving the GPS Signal but when I switch it on in Jersey City, NJ (My Home) it keeps on searching for GPS signal and never gets the signal. Doesn't tomtom have satellite signal all over US??

Why are you trying to use the device in the office or at home, it needs to be outside or in your car, give it 5 to 10 minutes while stationary to acquire the sat signals - Mike
