New to the group, so greetings all!

I just got a GO720 as a gift, started it up right away and punched in an address in the city I was in at the time, it took me right there - very impressive!

However, as I was driving home through a more rural area, I noticed that most of the rural highways are about 100 meters off, except for small stretches here and there. If I had punched in a destination, every time I hit a crossroad that was on the map the voice would be telling me to turn left or right (depending on which side of the actual highway it showed me on) then back on to the highway I was already on. So basically, entering a destination in rural areas is not very practical. Is reporting these errors to TT and hoping they will fix them the only way to deal with this? Or can one supply their own maps? I ask this because where I work we have our own GIS dept with accurate data of the area I am in that has a lot of the roads etc. that the 720 does not even show. Same goes for google, it shows all of the roads in the rural area I live in, but they don't even show up on the 720.

One other question, is the optional SD card only available to hold map data? Or can one use it for holding other info like mp3's, photo's etc..?

Can I also pre enter destinations before a trip, then just call them up when I need them and it will show me how to get there from wherever I happen to be? I just tried putting in a destination for a place I am going when I go to the city tonight, but I have other things to do first and don't know where I'll be when it's time to go there.

I read through th doc's, but find them quite lacking.

thanks!

There is no question but that users of GPS units, any brand, are at the mercy of the GPS' company's use of up to date accurate maps; clearly, some areas are covered to a lesser degree than others.

While you can't use your own maps, some people do create 'overlays' for map sections. (do a search here on the word. Also, I'm confident that those more knowlegeable than I will jump into the fray and provide guidance to you on the topic).

Finally.....one of the nice features of the x20 models is that the unit 'sees' the sd card as additional storage to the standard 2 gig internal that comes with the unit; consequently, you most certainly CAN put your mp3's, photos, books, etc on a card and the unit will recognize them as if they resided in internal memory. And keeping the map in internal memory at the same time.

Just remember: mp3s on the card MUST be in a 'mp3' folder (all lower case, no quotes. Photos must be in a 'photo' folder, etc.

Lastly, you MUST keep both the poi.dat file and the crpoi.dat file in the same folder as ther map, regardless of whether you choose to store the map on a sd card or keep it in memory.

Just saw your addendum

Sure, navfigate to an address. When it's done, you can turn off the unit. Later, turn it on and it's still going to steer you there. Or, you can navigate to-->'recent destination'. That works.
