hey guys i just purchased a new tomtom xl jut wondering if anyone has a weird humming noise that comes from it,it seems to be more prevalent when u switch to night maps for some reason,it gets really annoying at times and yeah i was just wondering if anyone had the same problem.

finally got it to update the mapshare which was a task in itself after it telling me my maps were out of date then telling me that there were no mapshare updates available......strange stuff

if you're a new tomtom owner, you can also get the most current maps for your device for free within the 30 day map guarantee. so i'd go ahead and get the new maps, then get whatever mapshare updates you can. not sure about your humming noise.

yeah thanks mate,i got in touch with tomtom and they told me to return it so will do that and see what happens with ther next 1

If you just got the unit and are using HOME 2.4 (and probably application 7.541) there is currently an issue regarding Mapshare updates. TT is aware of it and working on a fix.

The humming?...wow, never heard of a gps humming, any brand....

I've seen this discussed a time or two in the past, but nothing really conclusive...It seems like others have experienced the same. Use the forum "search" link and search for the words high pitch noise.
