new to tomtom please help?

i'm new to tomtom and im thinking of purchaseing a tomtom in the UK but i need to take it to the USA i have got hold of the USA and Canada v675.1409 maps
but they are a load of files what do i do just put these files on a SD card and thats it?

The map files should be put in a folder named something like 'USA_and_Canada v675.1409'.

You now have 2 choices:

- cooppy replace the existing map on the internal memory (after having done a backup, of course!)

- using a new SD card, copy all the files from the internal memory EXCEPT the UK map. Then add your new map.

You will be asked to activate the new map.

All this can be done using Windows Explorer, as your unit shows up as a hard drive when connected to the computer.

How do i activate the new map?
and can i use these downloadable maps on the tomtom one XL
or is it just the tomtom v2 i can use SD maps
