I am in the market to purchase a GPS unit. My daughter plays travel softball, we generally get an address to our hotel and the softball field. I want a simple unit that we can plug this info into and it will take us there. Also I want to be able to search for the closest Pizza Hut or diner when we are at our hotel or ball field.
I am not familiar with GPS , but am leaning toward Tom Tom What is the best unit that I can buy for around $150?

Probably a TomTom One XL-S can be found for that price. Widescreen (4.3"), text-to-speech [computer voice can say 'turn right in 200 yards on Elm Street', not just 'turn right in 200 yards',]maps of US & Canada.

What "dhn" says, I have the TT OneXL and although it works fine and would work good for what you want it to do as you can enter "POI's" (point of interest) for pizza and whatever, mine will only tell you to turn right in 200 yds but won't tell you the street name, although I can see in on the screen, the Onexl and Onexls are getting pretty cheap, some under $100. some places........Good Luck and Welcome............:D

Something to be aware of before you invest. None of the TomTom's will navigate to an off-road location/coordinates, something quite likely to happen for some softball field locations, Be sure whatever address or coordinates the organizer gives you exists in your Tomtom. If not ask for another street or address in the general area.

I believe you could be wrong on the one xl (s) ,it is slightly different than just the one xl.
I believe dhn is correct with the XLS that it will tell you the street name

Thank you for the input. I understand what one of you said about some ball fields are in remote locations.
Most of the venues that we will be playing at are pretty much NOT off road . For example, we will be playing at the Disney wide world of sports complex right outside of Epcot in July.
IF we DO play in a remote location, this unit has the capability of taking street intersections....doesn't it?

It will take you to intersections. I have used one for several years and no longer go anywhere without one in the car or an aviation gps in the airplane. You can save those fields you travel to often in "Favorites" and just bring them up the next time you travel there.
And welcome to the forum if I failed to do that earlier.

Bear in mind:
1. No GPS is perfect.
2. Your local knowledge is far more superior than any GPS device
3. DO NOT trust any GPS 100%
4. Do expect some addresses off few hundred yards, do expect some POIs off almost a mile.

Here's a tip I've discovered for places that are not "recognized." Find exactly where you want to go on a Google (or similar) map, then on the TomTom (I have a GO 730, so maybe this doesn't work on other units), choose the "Browse Map" option, use the slider on the right side to zoom in or out, slide your finger across the map to drag the map until you find the location you wish to go to, tap the map to add the blue icon to the location, then press the blue icon bar. Now you can add this location to your favorites. You have the option to name it whatever you wish, like "Ballpark Madison Mallards."

When you wish to go there, just navigate to one of your favorites and it will be there in your list.

It really works well, because the route that gets planned will be the best route to get to the exact spot you wish to go to, even if it's off the map.
