Greetings.

It seems that TomTom has recently modified their web application in such a way that a feature that we are heavily dependent upon now becomes useless. To be specific, on plan.tomtom.com, do this:

My Items -> Routes -> Import GPX file

Select a .GPX file to import. It seemingly succeeds, but with a major problem. Every Route has a Type associated with it (eg, Fast, Eco-Friendly, Thrill, Exact). It used to be that an imported .GPX Track would import as Exact. (As a reminder, a .GPX Track has track points every ~50 feet marking the exact path to be taken.) Now the .GPX imports as Eco-Friendly. There doesn't seem to be any way to set it to Exact. All the data in the track points are ignored or deleted.

This completely defeats the purpose of importing a .GPX.

This change is pretty recent - I can guarantee the "Import GPX file" functionality worked back in November 2024. Can anyone else reproduce this problem?

I've just tried it.
If a GPX contains a route and a track. The route is imported with the routename.
The track is also imported as "track-routename". And it is a track. It has the comment "exact" and the shape is as expected from a track.

With me, since September, with a new GO Navigator 7”, other issues have arisen for which I have been struggling with customer service for more than two months.

I also use GPX files and always the ‘exact’ version. When I drive the imported route, it disappears after a while. The screen goes black and after about 20 seconds it returns to the point where it was interrupted. The computer voice gives ETA after which the screen immediately goes black again.

But after trying the necessary troubleshooting at the request of customer service, the voice control also changes regularly. It doesn’t matter which voice you set, it constantly changes back to the computer voice, but also often two voices at the same time, and mixed up. This continues until you switch off the device.

Setting a route in the device itself, say from some point ‘back home’, works without any problems.
You don’t get much wiser from customer service. I have received requests to make video footage to show exactly what happened.

My old GO5000, where I used endless GPX files, ran synchronously without any problem. I also pointed out the possibility that MyDrive Connect could be the cause of the problem, but you don't get an answer to that. After a very long and pointless e-mail traffic I was instructed to reinstall the software, but that didn't help either. They have absolutely no idea what to do with it and now propose to send the device in for repair.

Actually, I am going to confirm what Dutch-Guy says. It DOES import the Exact track as a separate item under MyItems->Routes. I did not see it. So I think I have a workaround - delete the Eco-Friendly route, then rename the Exact route to be what it was before the software change.

Hello
I have exactly the same problem.
I imported a .GPX file into the plan.tomtom application and then downloaded it to my Go Superior 7. The screen goes black after 15-20 minutes of navigation. Then it starts again and stops again. I contacted Tomtom support but I am not convinced that they will solve the problem ...

This problem is back.

I have a .GPX file. I import it into plan.tomtom.com. It converts the trip to a type Eco-Friendly (rather than Exact).

Highly frustrating that they broke this functionality. This used to work flawlessly, now doesn't work at all.

Your GPX only contains a route. It doesn't contain a track

Try the attached files:

Test-2 should only have track.
test should have a route and a track

Be aware. Tracks starts with the word "Track"

Thanks for the response, Dutch.

That's not the problem in my case. My .GPX has both a track and a route. The file contains about 9000 <trkpt> elements, like this:

<trkpt lat="XX.50068" lon="YY.58291">
<name>TP030</name>
</trkpt>

I'm able to import the .GPX in other navigation apps such as OSMand without a problem.

Hi Dutch,

See here.
You are going to want to avoid *.gpx files with ANY waypoint <wpt> elements when dealing with TomTom's planner. It's a shame - would make a half decent replacement for loss of custom POI files.

Anyway, next time, try deleting those manually and uploading JUST the <trkpt> data.

See how this one - your file without waypoints - treats you (attached):

Hi Dutch,

I looked at the .GPX in a text editor. I see that the <wpt> tags are removed. When I import that .GPX into TomTom, I get nothing at all - no new track appears.

I wonder whether there is some sort of limit imposed by TomTom on the number of tracks or limit on the storage?

I've been using TomTom for 5 years, importing .GPX files without a hitch, until this recent problem occurred.

Oh wow. I just looked at test-2.gpx, and has NO line terminators at all. That one could be trouble as well. Open it in a text editor and the problem is clear.

Has anyone tried my revised icecream file, above? It's the original file with the waypoints up front removed. It appears to be a 'clean' track of 5878 track points.

Hi Canderson,

Just to be clear, I downloaded the .GPX from the .ZIP file you uploaded yesterday, and it does NOT import into plan.tomtom.com. Nothing, nada.

I created a new TomTom account and tried to upload that .GPX. Nothing. So it's probably not related to storage limits on the TomTom account.

Not an expert, but shouldn't a .GPX file (as an XML based format) be indifferent to whitespace?

Seems to be something wrong with the importer.

I've pared down a simple wpt style *.gpx to 50 points, double checked it with LINT (good XML) and 'uploading' it to the https://plan.tomtom.com site shows nothing other than the one route I already have stored there from a previous visit some while back.

Thanks Canderson. Seems like a genuine TomTom bug and not a mistake on my part.
