Ok i purchased my 720 yesterday and love the features, other than my iphone not being fully utilized. But anyway I live in PA. I frequent both NYC and Hartford CT. So I set up a sample route from my home to both locations. Now for some reason it takes me up to Albany thn back down to NYC. the same for Ct. turning a 2 hr trip to NYC into an 8 hr trip. I tried to set alternate routes but it does the same... Anyone know what i am doing wrong? is there a setting missing? you can get to NYC from my home using one road interstate 80, same for CT interstate 84.

What settings under planning preferences are you using? Fastest? Shortest? Also, what preference are you using for toll roads? Avoid? Always use?

shortes and for the tolls i have it set to ask me...when it asks i click yes

First of all, make a complete backup of your unit's contents using Explorer, not Home. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Now then....what firmware and map version are installed? To find the firmware installed, tap the satellite bars and the next screen shows the firmware version number. Tap the version number and the next screen shows the map version and build installed.

If you just got your unit, then you should be eligible for the latest map guarantee (30 days from first use). The latest NA map is 8.15 but until your firmware is at the v8 level, you won't be offered it. Even if your f/w IS at the newest (8.3), Home may still say you have the latest, when you don't; it's often flakey this way.

You would need to call support at 866-486-6866 for assistance.

Anyway, please report back thee firmware and map versions.

p.s. Try 'fastest' and see how you are routed.

Mines does say 8.3.. i called tom tom about the free map upgrade i had heard of but they told me they only offered it on refurb models up to around 3 months ago. only if i had a slip with a code on it would i be able to get it. something i did not get. pissed me off. however i do have the version 8.3 firmware.

i found ou the issue on the routing, lol. silly error on my behalf. when it asked me if i wanted to avoid tolls i was clicking yes.. lol. when i clicked no it took me the right way.

Can you pleae tell me the ways i would be able to get the traffic feature. do i have to buy that antenna?

First of all, call back and ask for a supervisor about the map upgrade issue. Today.

Glad you got the issue resolved regarding toll roads.

If you buy the antenna, you get 1-year of traffic included. After that, the renewal is $60 a year.

does that antenna work for all services? like the fuel, weather, etc? or just for traffic

My understanding is the weather service is supposed to be a freebee. Fuel services not.

But, a member here has developed a program that may alleviate your need for fuel services, somewhat. Go to this link for further information.

i already ordered the fuel services, lol. darn! but ill look at the program. If the 720 would accept the damm connection on my iphone this woudnt be an issue..grrrr. as for the weather and stuff it says not available for me

I called the 800 number about 2 weeks ago asking about differences between buying refurb and new models.

I received the same response from TT sales regarding LMG. No LMG for refurbs, only for new models. However, if there was a promo code for LMG in the box, they would honor it.

The only other difference the sales area mentioned was that refurbs come with a 6-month warranty, not a 1 year warranty.

i had to take it back to best buy, no matter what i did i could not get the poi's to show on the maps. it was frustrating even the sales rep tried. so i returned it. but i found it 30 bucks cheaper at radio shack so i ordered another

That last question is a real doozie, dhn. Here in Colorado, I nearly always avoid the one toll road in the area, so I've told Suzie to not even ask me about them. I was in Long Island a few months back and headed to Westchester County. FORGOT to tell Suzie that tolls were OK. I quickly discovered that if you give a TomTom (running 8.010, at any rate) an impossible question, it may just have a nervous breakdown and lock up! She said she planned to search what I recall to me about four million and some odd routes for the trip, and somewhere at about one million ... poof ... total inactivity that required a power down/up to recover! Just for grins, and to be sure, I let her sit for a good 20 minutes in that state. It wasn't a question of still working on the impossible -- it was more like giving up!

What led me to the above was the note that the OP was heading from PA to NYC. That would have allowed for going across the Hudson in at least one direction for free on one or the other of the bridges, though.
