XL Australia
No I'm not in North America, but my research points to this forum as the only comprehensive TomTom forum on the web! Thanks!

My new XL Australia (no SD card version) replaced a cheap no name device, and while it of course has a heap more features, seems to lack a basic feature which the el cheapo had - namely a built in road speed database.

The cheap one was able to indicate on screen the actual speed limit including school zones where lower limits apply. Both it and the TomTom use maps from the same supplier.

Having said that while waiting for the TomTom at Xmas, (after the chinese cheapie went u/s), I was using the GPS in my Nokia Mobile - now there's a waste of time and money.

First of welcome to the Forum !

I am not sure on the options with the XL but think you can have your unit show speed/ and speed traveling next to posted in your preference/ status bar preference

Might I suggest you do a complete explorer back up before you do anything if you arn't sure on this look here

PS send some of that warm weather up here :D

Thanks - browsing this forum had already alerted me to the need for an Explorer backup - in fact I did two - once out of the box in one directory, and another after a Home update in a different directory.

I have a 1Tb drive so for a while at least I think I'll do a dated backup whenever I do any updating until I'm happy that all is stable.

And yes the weather is warm - tho' not as warm as it should be - only 30C on Christmas day.
