TomTom Model(s)
GO510
Hi as title says i am buying a proper tomtom usa & canada map on SD card from an authorised tomtom retailer he says it will work perfectly in my "GO510" should i put it straight in or make a back-up of it incase of any problems in the future.

Regards Tomtombob1:):)

I would make the purchase using TomTom Home as that way you can re-load the map in the event of a problem as it will be stored on the computer, also with new maps due out anytime in the next week or two if you wait a while until the v845 maps are released you will have the very latest map for the device - Mike

Always make a Windows Explorer backup.
Is the new card a plain SD card and your current reader can see it or is it a SDHC that was shipped with the USB to SDHC adapter.

510/ 710 can only use SD cards they won't read SDHC AFAIK, did the retailer want the device code per chance prior to sale? - Mike

Hi Mike i have not ordered it yet but i have contacted them and they did not ask for any code,
is that good or bad. I am not that good on the computer and did not fancy downloading from
home, plus if i made a mistake on the dowload i have lost both maps and money i thought by
buying the maps on a SD card and backing them up i felt safer if you no what i mean. But that
is what this forum is about asking questions and hopefully getting the right advice.
So would you say it is better to buybonline and download rather than SD card.

Regards Bob

Ask them what version the map is they are selling and if its not v840 then I wouldn't bother as thats currently the latest but as I said in a week or two v845 will be available. If it is v840 then I smell a rat as TomTom haven't made that version of map available preloaded to an SD card for the 510 which is why I wondered if they were asking for a device code to crack the map to work on your device (software piracy)

I would still go for the TomTom Home purchase if I were you, if you get a problem I can offer you my mobile number (via PM) to talk your through the installation and lets face it you aren't that far from my location! - Mike

Hi Mike it is V840 they are offering i will take your advice and hang on and get the later version we are not going to florida untill the 1st may.

Tom tom maps

Hi Mike just seen on tomtom website brand new V8.40 usa & canada maps on SD card ?64-95, download is ? 54-95, if i download it to my computer will i have to buy and SD card to put on to put in my GO510.

Regards Bob

A suitable SD card to store both your UK and USA maps will cost around ?5 and you have both maps on the device so it will navigate you to Manchester airport for the departure, then using the USA map it will be fine for the trip across the pond, finally it will take you home all with the same card loaded with two maps - Looking at your travel dates I would wait a week or two to ensure you get the v845 maps which are not yet released but they are due at any time now - Mike

845 map released

The 845 map is now showing in Home for the One series in the United States. Updating now...
