Does anyone have any feedback on the newest mapset? I get tired of ponying up money to only find the updates I'm looking for still aren't on the new maps.

TIA!

No feedback, but a solution for you.

You can "peek" at the current TeleAtlas map set to see if they've even fixed it on their end (much less delivered it to TomTom). Go to www.teleatlas.com and pretend to enter a "correction" on their site to fix a map error. You don't actually need to make the correction (although you may wish to make one), just go through the procedure until it shows you the map where the correction is (supposedly) to be made. You will see the map they're currently work with there.

So if you prefer to wait for new TT maps until a specific change has been made, you won't know for sure if it's in a new TT map even if TeleAtlas has it fixed, but if TeleAtlas doesn't show it fixed, you can be SURE that TomTom hasn't got it yet.

well here in canada in my city they fixed a boat load of things! I think its the best map since, iduno when :) I just took a look at the teleatlas map and i have more roads on my tomtom from 825 than what i just saw. Weird

Equalizer, are you saying there are more accurate roads on 825 than on teleatlas map corrections? Do you have examples that some of use can research?

This would mean that tomtom is adding new roads to its maps using mapshare or some other source that teleatlas doesn't have.

TomTom/TeleAtlas is adding new roads based on tracklogs submitted by opt-in mapshare users. . . but not in this map. The latest map on Google, which is 3-4 months more recent than the 8.25 update, does have some examples of that. But the current TomTom map does not have any road additions or geometry changes that didn't originate with TeleAtlas AFAIK.

Your understanding matches mine. The 2009.02 teleatlas update (probably will be the May 09 tomtom update) is the first to use the GPS user traces to create new roads.

I was questioning whether tomtom has roads that teleatlas doesn't. Prior to the teleatlas buyout, tomtom's website said that they didn't take their map vendor's database at face value and validated it some more themselves. The obvious thing would be for those validators to start working in the teleatlas division after the merger. If equalizer is noticing an update that made it onto tomtom prior to teleatlas.com then it's possible the divisions haven't fully integrated.

What worries me most about 2009.02 is that teleatlas is introducing many new errors in the database vs map 815. It appears that they are not human-validating some changes and maybe if no one drives down a road for a period of time they delete the road. Most of these deletions are within 0.1 miles of a valid deletion, so their engine may be importing the location of corrections in error.

I hope tomtom implements any road deletions as mapshare blocks for at least one map release, so that we can undo them ourselves if teleatlas makes a mistake.

I'm kind of rural but we'll see how the map holds up on my next trip to the "big" cities

Mule

Apparently, the February version contains only Mapshare-related corrections (street names, traffic directions etc). The next version (due in May) will contain new streets and similar cartographic elements (source: yournav.com)

No, the 8.25 release from this month also has "new streets and similar cartographic elements ". The differnence between this release and the next scheduled for May (could be later) is the method used for determining where some new roads or road path/geometry may vary. For the first time, tracklog information from users devices was used to "see" where traffic exists with no corresponding road. I don't expect to see a lot of examples of this at first, but if the process works then it theoretically could make identifying those changes both easier and faster. Just be careful taking those "parking lot shortcuts" to avoid redlights so that TA doesn't identify them as higway changes!

new maps not showing up in Latest Map Guarantee

I just purchased my tomtom and the new maps, while showing up as available for purchase haven't registered yet in my latest map guarantee. I'm kind of annoyed and am planning on calling TomTom tomorrow. I just figured I'd post to remind others to double check the version if you are claiming your update as TomTom may just slip one over on you by passing off expired good. The version is displayed but it's easy to miss.
