New Map Guarantee??

I've seen the "New Map Guarantee" mentioned several places on this forum, but I wondered if all TTR's came with it, or just TTR2's.

I have a TTR1, and I don't see it under my TOOLS menu in TTHome. I have checked for updates on TTHome, and it says I have the latest version (1.5).

Anyone know about this?

The TT HOME for the Riders does not support the map guarantee. Also keep in mind, the guarantee is only good for the first 30 days of ownership I believe. My TTR2 came with v6.67, but I called support and recieved the v6.75 map.

Well, I just recently found out something very interesting - and frustrating for me.

The new-map guarantee is accessed through use of TomTom HOME Ver. 2. And you can use V2 whether you have a Rider 1 or a Rider 2. (I was informed by TT support that HOME V2 was compatible with RIDER1 running the more recent application.) BUT, you have to know a trick to get HOME V2. You need to download HOME from the TT web site by clicking on the button labeled "for GO and ONE devices," NOT the button labeled "RIDER."

Now the frustrating part. I was just informed of the ability to get HOME V2 by using the "GO and ONE" button last week - AFTER my 30-day guarantee period had expired. So now TT won't give me the map update!

The whole point of the map guarantee is this. Tomtom builds a unit and loads the latest map. Then they send it to the retailer and it sits on the shelf for 6 months. In the meantime tomtom has released 3 updates to that map. The consumer buys the "new" tomtom but gets a map that is not up to date.

The consumer would want to go through all the boxes on the shelf and find the most recent one. To avoid this, tomtom will allow you to update to the latest version within 30 days of your purchase so that no matter when your unit was built, you get it with a new map.

It's like the shelf life on Milk...people always reach way in the back to get the freshest milk with the longest shelf life...

Give TT a phone call, I have had pretty decent luck with them. Explain your situation and maybe, just maybe they will update you.

I didnt know you could even still get a TTR1.

What version map do you have in it?

My TTR2 came with the 667 map, they updated it to 675. I also have a 715 map for mine.

Threaten to return th unit if you do not get a new map. They don't know the store policy on returns. The unit is out of date and therefore defective.

Yes, I bought the TTR1 in Jan. 08, from a store that was closing out their inventory. I'm on travel now, but will reply again when I get back with the info on the map I have. Since it is a TTR1 and probably an earlier version to boot, the map is not new, for sure.

You will only see the map guarentee if you use HOME 2.3. And then if your unit is older than 30 days, ur outta luck. Although a call to TT support might garner you a new map, but dont count on it.
