Took it out the box connect to pc to TomTom home for update no maps,no update? Do we have to BUY a map first? My first TomTom there was no issue? confused

No, it comes (or should come) with a map already installed on it. When you turn it on, what happens or doesn't happen?

Also, when you connect it via the docking station to your computer, does the computer recognize it as an external drive? It should.

If so, use Explorer (or Finder, if using a Mac) and look at the contents of the unit. There should be a bunch of folders and some loose files in the root of the unit, not in any folder.

Are you seeing a folder called North_America_2GB with abunch of stuff in it?

Register and Login.

Open Home if you have not:

Top menu bar Tools/Use latest map guarantee and this will give you the latest update to your map.
