Last week I received this from tomtom:

As you know, we?re on a mission to reduce traffic congestion for everyone. And we?re achieving it by making regular improvements to our services.

From 22 May 2011 our latest TomTom HD Traffic improvements will be available to you for free. To benefit from them your device needs to have the latest software.

The update will make TomTom HD Traffic even better than it was before. It will give you:

? More frequent traffic updates
? Traffic jam reports for even more roads
? More accurate arrival times

To get the update, all you need to do is connect your device to TomTom HOME from
22 May.

Anyone seen this update yet? I'm curious as to whether it will fix my traffic issues on my 740 LIVE!

There's been quite a lot of discussion about this on the main UK forums.

No-one has seen anything yet and it's debatable if the email even means a new software application or not. Could be just marketing department hype, it's happened before.

I look forward eagerly to some new software, but I'd be very surprised if they released new software versions for EVERY 'Live'-capable model all on the same day.

Andy, I saw your recent reply to this at another site.

So there isn't actually any software update, just a very poorly written email from TT, intended only for those not already on the latest application.

Yes sorry, I meant to post it here too, but lunch called....

"GeePee" is the one who found it on the TT discussion board.

TomTom now say that there is NO APPLICATION UPDATE. The email was both badly worded AND was only meant to go to people whose device was not on the latest application version.
TomTom have made internal improvements to the way they collect / distribute the traffic information. To ensure that you are able to take advantage and best use this information, the latest version of the application should be installed on your device. The email was only meant to encourage people to update their sat nav to bring it up to date.
