New 540s, turn it on or wait

Just bought a new 540s for what I think is a good price but I won't need it until I travel to the States in February.I see that I have 30 days from the time that I turn it on to get latest maps. Is there any point waiting to turn it on?Are new maps likely in December or January?

A new map just came out I'd suggest getting it. See https://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-news/23873-map-update.html.

New map won't come out until mid-February or so, and that would be cutting it a bit thin. I'd go ahead and update your unit (per above) with 860 whenever you get around to it, but you're quite correct that you've got 30 days from connect to get it done.
