They are going to close a couple of roads where I live (out in the country) and my wife wants a GPS so she doesn't get lost. This is why I learn the back roads. From what's available locally I like the looks of:
TomTom One 3rd edition
TomTom One 130TTS
TomTom One XL-S

1. Will any of these allow me to lock out the roads that are going to be closed and navigate around them?

2. Are they simple to use? She isn't a very technical person.

I have to get something off the shelf as they are going to start the construction (destruction) Monday.
Thanks,
Doug Stump

It is possible mapshare will let you "correct" these roads. But I would wait an see if someone who uses that feature more then me responds...

It looks like you can "block" the street from both directions to keep anyone from being routed through it. You could follow-up by sending in a notice that the street past a certain point is gone.

PS - make sure the unit you are getting will let you do mapshare. Otherwise, you would be out of luck.

I'd make sure to get her TTS (the 130), but I'm not exactly sure if you can lock out roads.

The TomTom interface is quite easy... If my wife can do it, anyone can.

The top 2 (of your list) are 3.5" screen.
The bottom 2 are featured TTS.
I used to own the XL-S and it works fairly well. It does have MapShare so you can BLOCK the street so it will route around that street. I believe with NavCore 8 update, you can turn the boring default blue arrow into a car icon, which is cool. XL-S also has QuickGPSFix feature too and a SD slot. The XL-S that I had could lock the signal fairly fast (without the help of QuickGPSFix) and re-calculation/re-route rate was extremely fast (I love that).
Unlike the so called user friendly GUI of Magellan and Garmin gps', Tomtom device requires a little time, a day or two, just to get along and get to know it.
