I am planning a trip from upstate NY to southern VA. According to both Google Maps and MapQuest, when I enter my "From", "To" points, they both advise going south on the NYS Thruway, then to the Garden State Parkway via exit 14A, and then transitioning to the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95 South) at exit 129. At this exit, both web sites suggest taking the lane that is marked for "Cars, Trucks, Buses". When I examined this exit (129) close-up in Google Maps, it appears that this exit actually branches into two lanes: one for "Cars, Trucks, Buses", and one for "Cars Only". Following I-95 south, it looks like both of these lanes merge into one lane approximately 15 miles south of exit 129 on the NJ Turnpike. Further on, I will be taking I-95 / I-295 into Delaware.

 So, my question is this: at exit 129, does it matter which lane I choose: "Cars, Trucks, Buses", or "Cars Only"? It looks like they both eventually end up in the same place, but I am not certain about this. Does anyone have any experience driving through this particular exit (129)? And is there anything else I should be aware of regarding the GS Parkway or NJ Turnpike? I will be traveling through this region around mid-day on a Friday. Thanks very much!!

I've used both, and prefer the Cars Only lanes. Sh*t happens, so I'd rather tangle with an SUV instead of an 18-wheeler. If weather is bad, road spray will be worse form trucks. Road surface is also less smooth due to the heavier loads. I also don't think trucks have a fast lane restriction.

Enjoy the trip...

Take car lanes, avoid truck routes.

The truck lanes tend to move slower (since they are for trucks) plus, trucks get pissed off at the cars,, (they do trust me).. they also tend to kick up a lot of rocks and trash..

Its often a crap shoot which has better traffic flow.. but I stick in the car lane.
