I have TT 540 XXL and notice that the memory states:
USED: 1.62 GB
FREE: 216 MB

#1- Would that 216 MB FREE mean I could not download any additional updated versions? I notice the downloaded version are quite large each time and take hours for me to download. Will I still be able to download new updated versions, or do I have too little FREE memory? And if so, will everyone who has a TT eventually run-out of memory because the downloaded updates are so huge?

#2- I have 880.3862 and wonder if that is the latest version?

1. When you do get a map update (and yes, in your answer to #2, 880 is the latest version of the map), it overwrites what's in the existing map folder on the unit. So you should be ok as, so far, the USA_Canada_Mexico maps are still < 2 gb in size.

p.s. If you haven't done so, make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. If not sure how, see here:

Tried to do the backup but half-way though I got the message:
"Cannot copy cname: The parameter is incorrect."
I clicked OK and then the backup was discontinued.
What to do now, if anything?

I've seen this when backups of large files (like cname.dat) are attempted over WiFi to another machine (I had the TomTom plugged into my netbook and was backing up to the big machine). In fact, I just had that happen again yesterday when I forgot it would happen and instead made the direct connection to my router to get over that hump.

If you were connected directly, I'd try it again, but see what happens if you manually copy the cname.dat file across first by itself.

Thank you for helping.

Re your: "If you were connected directly, I'd try it again, but see what happens if you manually copy the cname.dat file across first by itself".

I am new at all of this and really do not understand too much about copying, etc.

I plugged the TT into my computer and then I clicked COPY and PASTE and it began the copying, until I got that message about the file not being able to be copied.

I will try again, but don't know what you mean by the "manual copy."

A 'manual' copy as opposed to just grabbing a folder full of stuff. I guess it's all manual, but I am thinking it would be good to see if a couple of the larger files (e.g., cname.dat and cline.dat) can be copied one at a time. Sounds like you are already directly connected to your PC.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of PC are you connected to, and what kind of operating system are you running? Are you trying to copy directly to the hard drive of your PC, or a little external storage unit of some kind?

This problem USUALLY occurs if you are trying to copy a truly huge file (>4GB) to a system with FAT32 formatting (if you don't know what that is, don't worry about it).

I am copying now

I am copying again now to see if it will copy, as you suggested (but on my notebook now).
Previously I tried to copy on my desktop and when looked in properties of C drive and saw NFTS. It is is a Gateway.
I see what happens now with the copying on my notebook (also Gateway). Don't want to stop it now to look at Computer properties.
The copying is supposed to take 30 minutes of so. Must be large files.
I looked at my F drive (where the TT is connected) and don't see the "cname" file; and therefore wonder how I could transfer it manually.
I am saving to a folder I created on my computer (not flash, etc.), as was explained on the website that was supplied in the first answer I received above.

The cname.dat file is in your North American or US map folder.

Not sure why you got hung up, based upon your description of your setup.
