I'm here to gather additional support for a feature request I've already submitted to TomTom direct through a support ticket.
NavCore 8 (when re-released) introduces the ability to specify a speed limit for roads that currently have no speed limit listed. This can be done one of two ways:
* Enter a speed limit for the entire road
* Tap 1/4 mile segments where the speed limit is in effect.
I spent about 15 minutes this morning tapping out a five-mile segment of road which had a lower speed limit than the rest. Close to the end, my finger got too close to the Cancel button, and my 20 x 1/4 mile segments was lost. Friggin' !@#U*%; I hate spending a lot of time on something just to be a nice guy and having it never see the light of day!!
What I proposed to TomTom as an alternative is very simple: Begin speed limit, end speed limit. Automatically fill in the area inbetween.
Case in point: El Camino Real in California is a very long, historical route which Father Serra supposedly traveled in setting up the missions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Camino_Real_(California) It's about 600 miles long, extending from Baja, Mexico all the way up to Sonoma, north of San Francisco. Selecting a speed limit for the whole road is not realistic due to county- and city-specific speed limits, but even through the San Jose area, the speed limit varies quite a bit.
If you agree that there's a better way to do this than tapping out 1/4 mile segments, please write TomTom and let them know. Again, my proposal: begin speed limit, end speed limit.
