Maps not installing after download

I have paid for the updated maps service but after download, the unit comes up with various error messages and does not install the maps, I have tried three times and have reached my download limit with my ISP.
After contacting Tomtom support, they suggest there is a memory problem with the unit and to send it to the repair centre in Fife. This I did over a week ago and received a replacement unit today, the operating system was 8.014 and all of the maps (UK and USA), plus their upgrades, OS, Cameras, Mapshare, Phones etc, have all to be downloaded and installed. Makes you wonder why I bothered to send it away in the first place!
So I have today written to TomTom CEO in Holland to see if he can improve matters.
If not, can anyone recommend a replacement unit .i.e. Garmin etc?
