Map upgrade

Hi,
I am getting a TomTom 130 refurbished GPS.
I was told that the pre-loaded map should be older on the refurbished unit.
Can I upgrade the map in the GPS?
Must I follow the sequence of the upgrade every year?

Welcome to TTF.

First of all, North American refurbs are not entitled to map upgrades although the odd person has indeed gotten one after calling support at 866-486-6866.

You certainly do NOT have to upgrade maps yearly, especially if the one you have does the job for you. Your model doesn't have IQ routing, which is one reason many do update the maps for their models.
