Puzzled at TomToms map update service? Home tells me that my maps are 2 quarters out of date and offer to update them for ?15.90, that's fine BUT they then expect me to pay ?31.80 on top to keep them up to date for a year. If I remove this one then they both go!! Also puzzled when I go extra info to find they are both 1KB in size??

The map update service is a subscription that buys you the next 4 future maps. (Nov 2009, Feb 2010, May 2010, and August 2010). It is only sold to those who have the current (August 2009) map.

If you don't have the August 2009 map, Tomtom sells a bundle where you can get the map at a discount if you simultaneously buy a map subscription.

The ?15.90 is the discounted August 09 price, and ?31.80 is for the 4 future maps.

If you don't buy a subscription, then the August 2009 map would have to be purchased at full price, which is normally a lot more than ?15.90.
