map share question

I just got a 740 Live GPS which is the first GPS I have ever owned. In general it's nice although some of the most useful features still need improvement (e.g., traffic). I do like the Map Share feature but am unsure how to use it. For example where I live in Washington, D.C., there is a major route called the Rock Creek Parkway. The GPS loves to use this route but it doesn't realize that from 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. it's closed to Northbound traffic and in the afternoon from 3:45 to 6:30 p.m. it's closed to Southbound. I would like to know if this information can be added to the map database so that it understands that it cannot always use that route when calculating trips and has to take into account the time of day. Also we have similar restrictions on for Interstate 66--there are HOV restrictions which I don't believe the GPS is programmed to account for. Could anyone offer suggestions on how to update these routes?

Thanks!

As far as HOV lanes are concerned tomtom can't take into account all the states and the time schedual of each hov lane so In the planning preferences you can have it ask you when their are hov lanes on your route or what I do to always avoid hov lanes. Their are just too many hwys and too many different times. on the first question, you can test this road out on your unit at different times of the day and different days of the week and see if their are different routes which would indicate that the IQ routing is working in this instance. An alternative, but which is a pain in the neck is that when you plan your route you can go to alternative and put in to go via this route or to avoid this route.

Thanks for the info. I didn't see the Planning Preferences. I've just been hitting the Navigate To... button and then entering my address. Just ran through the preference and set to ask about HOV lanes as you suggested. Hopefully that will work.

With regard to the Rock Creek Parkway, I used Prepare Route and set the Depart from as Home and Destination as Work and I set it for a time when Parkway would be closed Northbound. Sadly it gave me the route using the Parkway Northbound. It's too bad that this info cannot be provided to the TomTom programmers. I don't think it would require too much effort to fix.

Thanks again!

If you only take the parkway northbound on your way to work and southbound on the way home from work and no other time, you could block the parkway using mapshare and NOT share the change with others.

Then, you won't get routed on the parkway either going or coming.

But, if you do use the parkway at other times, then that won't work, will it ...

When I first got my TomTom 740 I got very excited about map corrections. I spent much time correcting errors. I then updated the map and they all went. I have been in touch with customer support trying to get them to appreciate the frustration of losing all your changes but they just don't get it.
The other problem is that the Map people ignore corrections. The center of Swansea, Wales, UK has totally changed. One way systems put in, new bus lanes, roundabout changed to junctions etc etc. I have tried for the last 3 map updates to get this altered. I get ignored.
This is a brilliant idea which needs a lot of work and a lot of thought about how we use it.

The map corrections (except those under "report other error" should update immediately and permanently. If you are losing them, then your mapshare is probably corrupt.

Go to home -> tools -> mapshare -> remove all corrections. This resets your mapshare and future changes should save fine.
