Map Regression

:mad:Hi, I'm really frustrated regarding some map errors which have been introduced in later versions of TeleAtlas maps. When I bought my TomTom (GO) it had Map version : V660.1256 installed and this contained "my" street and a newly developed supermarket road complex nearby. Two years later I decided to invest in a new map and upgraded to Map version : V710.1561.

This seemed to have regressed to a stage whereby my own road no longer exists and the nearby supermarket road complex is totally wrong (roads are not joined leading TT to believe there is no thru route !), it is not even as it was before the supermarket was built !

I fed this back via TT's website but after further map updates the position remains incorrect. I then fed the same information back via the TeleAtlas website. Initially I thought this looked promising as I had the nice feed back email that they had received my comments and the next stage would be they were "working on the problem". Well 3 months on and they don't appear to have started work.

My latest map upgrade was downloaded yesterday and the errors are still present.

All told it is now 4 years since "my street" vanished and there doesn't seem to be anyway of correcting the problem (TeleAtlas don't seem to offer any feedback other than via electronic forms and there is nothing that covers this situation).

This is really galling in that the mapping information was ONCE correct yet there seems no way get it corrected.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to rattle an appropriate cage ?

Many thanks.

Not much to do other than you have done. You have reported the issue properly. You can report it missing again using mapshare.

Also, you can list the missing street here. If other report it missing as well, the priority for TT verification to move it up the totem pole may be improved.

I similarly saw map regression from map 675 to 810, but all of the roads in my area have been added back in by the time map 835 returned.

Right now Teleatlas seems to be prioritizing new road additions based on anonymous data usage. Make sure "submit anonymous data" is on.

To turn it on, delete allowtrip.dat in your Tomtom's statdata folder. Next time you turn on the Tomtom it will ask you to submit anonymous data - say yes.

what I found in getting things done was to consatantly weekly maybe more to re enter mapshare corrections of the same thing. Sometimes with just the discription of the problem and others with adding new streets in mapshare. Doing constant submittion. I actually got teleatlas to put in shopping centers that were 2-4 yrs old and showed nothing on the maps in less then 6 months which I think is a record. Believe it or not 2 years ago the people who were looking at the maps actually called me at home and told me that they were looking at the problem and assured me that it would be corrected which it did..I know a first for tomtom customers. But basically just constantly resend corrections every way possible. The more the better. Good luck

Map accuracy = horrid

At least in the Hwy 280 / North Shelby County area near Birmingham Alabama, the map accuarcy is absolutely horrible. This is without regard to whether referring to new development, or roads that have been present more than 2o years.

On Hwy 280, ALL business addresses have the same considtent error, and are msiplaced by around 1000 feet. This results in erroneous route calculations.

In many residential areas, the street names are wrong (estimate 20% error rate). Frequesntly the first word in the street name is correct, but, the scond word (streer/drive/circle/pkwy) appears to have been created by a random name generator.

I have reported a number of these issuees to Tele-Atlas - the only status is 'recevied".

In my opinion, when they sent those trucks around to do the street views, they set the map quality back y 10 years. Those guys need a drug test.

To be confident in an adress, I now first go to Yahoo maps, find where I want to go, then visit Google maps and eyeball the same sdpot and send it to my device with Tyre.

Quite a testament to Tele-Atlas quality control.
