I just bout a refurb GO630 and a refurb XL 330s. I also recently purchased new (NOT REFURB) XL 340S. Now the questions. The refurb units I bought have map 810.1907. THe 340 that I bought was updated to 8.414. How out of date are my refurb units and is there a way to get the downloaded map on the 340 and use it on them? If not, is the update to the newest maps worth it at this time?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I admit that I am one

Don't apologize for asking questions .........that's how we all learn and welcome to TTF.

First of all, in North America, normally refurbs are NOT entitled to the latest map guarantee although, after calling support at 866-486-6866, some people are known to get them .... it's a case by case basis, I guess.

The 340 reference to '8.414' is the application installed. If you tap the satellite bars on the unit, the next screen shows the application installed. Now, tap the version number and the next screen shows the map installed and its version number.

Unfortunately, maps are locked to one device so you can't share maps, even if 2 devices are the same model.

If the recently purchased 340S is within the last 30 days, then for sure take advantage o the latest map guarantee for it. There will NOT be a newer map released until the end of November.

Finally, if you plan to keep and use more than one unit, register each at TomTom.com with a separate user_id (that is, email address and password). It doesn't even have to be a real email address.

That way, when you connect your unit to Home, and have tored in Home the separate email address for each specific unit, there won't be a screw up when you get mapshare downloads for the specific map and the specific unit.

I said finally before .........

BUT REALLY finally ..........:D

Make a separate Explorer, not Home, backup of each unit's contents. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Can anyone tell me how old the 810.1907 map is and if it is worth the $89 to update now? (if tom tom CS doesn't help) Thanks

That map is about 1 year old. If you go to Google maps, check out some locations near you for roads that seem not to be on your map. Google uses the latest TeleAtlas map (same as TT).

If you see enough changes that would impact your travelling, then maybe consider the upgrade. Only you can decide what's best for your own personal situation.
