G'day Everyone
Im in Australia and have just purchased and downloaded a map of the UK ready for an upcoming trip, my problem is when i switch tomtom on with the card inserted i just get a picture of the SD card in blue coming out of the tomtom with a red cross through it? My Australia card works fine.

Thanks in anticipation

you may need to copy the tomtom OS from your original card to your new card. Or, you can just hook it up tomtom home with your new card in it and will down load the OS for you.

I plugged in tomtom and home starts up and automatically checks for updates.. it says my device is up-to-date.
Then i clicked on "Operate your device" and the message says..."To start operating your device TomTom Home needs to download a new file do you want to download this file now"
I clicked Yes and got this message
"to start operating your device TomTom Home needs a new file. This file is currently not available. Please try again soon.

Is there a step by step guide on how to download and install the OS? Im not much cop at this stuff.
cheers
Pete

copy every file from the root of your working SD card to the root new SD card. These should be them.

tomtom problem

I ran into this same problem today when connecting my new TomTom One 3rd Edition to my computer (got it at Staples on Black Friday). Called TomTom US support and this is a known problem for some folks. They don't have a fix for it yet and I need to wait patiently:-( for a new update that will fix this problem. They don't know when there will be a fix for the problem.

BTW, this thread when searched on google as "tomtom home needs a new file" operation comes up as a unique one search match. That doesn't happen too often.

I actually unplugged from my USB, turned off my tomtom and turned it back and reconnected and it worked!

I purchased the UK maps in July 2007 for a trip in Aug 2007. I purchased the files through home and then placed a brand new SD card in my tt and connected it to the computer. Home then downloaded the OS and the UK maps to my TT for me.

Make sure you have both the UK & Au maps on your PC.

Option 1. The maps can be downlaoded for up to one year. so back up your one if you have not. then put a the new SD card in the TT and connect it to your computer and restore it using the OS and the UK maps.

Option 2. Upgrade to a larger SD card and restore tt files including the Au & Uk maps on the same card.

On a happy note my tt saved me on at least 8 occassions on that trip. The only hard part was getting used to counting exits on round-a-bouts.

Have you tried connecting your Tom Tom to your computer with the USB cable, then inserting the disk? I thought I read somewhere that the HOME software will automatically recognize the need to load the disk, and then load it with the necessary software.
