Map not found!

I think I might need some help here...

A few weeks ago my Tomtom One v3 appear to die. There were errors in navigating to destinations and all sorts of weird screen freezing going on. In spite of poking the reset button numerous times it wasn't playing ball. Eventually I decided to try to rest the factory settings even though I knew this would delete all the favourites and various other settings. However, for some reason my Tomtom got stuck in some kind of loop where it would not complete the factory reset. I decided on a complete reinstall.

I backed up the unit using Home and followed the instructions laid out here: https://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-one-xl-xxl/16308-tomtom-one-3rd-frozen-wont-turn-off.html
(See post from evans.1 about reinstalling software about half way down - long post)

All seemed fine as I turned on my tomtom once more. I scuttled through the set up screens, setting the time and so on but at the point when I was asked to choose a voice, the unit suddenly told me "Map not found".

Using tomtom home, I can see that there is the Western Europe map sitting quite happily on the drive but for some reason tomtotm does not want to see it. Can anyone help me out here? Advice? Tips? Hints? Or do I now own a reasonably expensive paperweight/doorstop/dog's chew toy?

Welcome to the forum, have a look at using the Clear Flash tool as this has been known to address issues like yours, you can download it from Here - Run it three times then see if the device will boot up and display the map - Mike

Make an Explorer, not home, backup of your unit's contents. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Then remove all the loose file in the root of the unit. NO folder or their contents.

Next, connect the unit to Home. An application should be offered. Accept it, download and install.

Disconnect the unit PROPERLY from the computer using Home's Device disconnect icon.

Restart the unit. does that help?

Well you see, like a cretin who doesn't use PCs I thought that when you said "Explorer" you meant Internet Explorer and figured this was some arcane PC user thing. Of course, I have already made a manual backup as well as the Home backup but neither does a damned thing.

I have now gone and bought and paid for a new updated map to replace the old map (the one that was there but my device couldn't see). But wouldn't you know it, there's problems there too. At the very, very, very last second of the download and installation, Home decided that somehow I had disconnected my device. Now I can't find a way of installing the new (and not inexpensive) map. Home is no help as "Update my device" can't see anything missing.

This is driving me nuts. I'm going to end up spending an entire day chasing my sodding tail.

All good now. If you go to "Add Maps" in Home, it will allow you to install a downloaded (but as yet uninstalled) map. It's all working fine now. Phew! Thanks for the help.

If it is the proper map that gets installed, then you know what the next step is, right?

Explorer backup!!
