map needs to be activated

Hi all newb here and im sure this has been asked before! I installed home and connected my xl which was all fine. Joined map share and now I dont have a map(diddnt backup) it just says this map wont work and needs to be activated! Really annoying and im about to throw it! Please help!

Mapshare updates to your base map should not have killed your original base map.

If you have zero backups of any kind, I would recommend that you delete your entire map folder (and JUST your map folder), reconnect your XL, fire up TTHome, and let it discover that you need a map. The server should make your existing level of map available to you again.

All of this assumes you have set up a normal TomTom account and that Home knows you and your device.

thanks for the reply. tried that but it just brings up the maps i need to pay for! Im pretty tech savvy and cant believe this brand new tomtom has been turned into a paperweight so easily!

When you look at the contents of your unit, do you see a specific map folder with files inside it?

Try downloading and running the clear flash tool from here:
TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - Support home - Select your product

Run it 3 times.
