Hello everyone!

I just joined up, been browsing the forums for a few days now.

I recently bought a tomtom 720 it just arrived yesterday morning, I've doen all the updates on it through the new version of tomtom Home.

The only problem i am having is witht he latest map garuntee

It shows new map is available (7.20 i think) and it downlaods it.. 1 hour later it attempts to install it to my tomtom but then it says "invalid path"

What is the problem? This is a brand new tomtom, do i have to delete the already installed maps on the tomtom before updating?

Oh yes and i think it says App version 8.. :/ is that the firmware version? not to familiar with tomtoms so excuse my questions..

Thanks.

Thanks.

First backup the TT using Home and also take a backup using Windows Explorer just to be safe before any updates.
I had used the 'Map gurantee' option from Home to download the maps(Tools->Use Map Gurantee). Initially a couple of times it failed for me. Both were because I was running low on disk space in 'C' drive. By default Home puts everything in 'C:' drive. I then created enough space in C: drive like 2.5-3GB and then it went well.
Since I took a backup I deleted all files from the 'North_America_2GB' folder in TT. But I dont think that this is required.
The link below has some information from TomTom on Navicore 8 update. It is the firmware or the TomTom Application version.

Well thanks for the idea,

I backed up all inf on tomtom through tomtom home, and i also made a copy of all files on the 720.. then proceeded to to delete allfiles in the North America_2g folder..

Tried updating to the new 7.20 maps and i get the same error "invalid path"

I have 59 gigs free on my c drive so i know thats not the issue..

any other suggestions?

I should mention that it starts installing, and about half way through it then says invalid path

In TTHome/Preferences/Folder Locations, it provides (default) paths for downloads, backups from the computer, stuff like that.

Make sure all paths and folders DO exist on your computer, especially for Downloads.

yes dhn.. i verified that.. all directories do exist!

the location reference is correct, and all folders are where they should be! i just dont get it :(

I've figured it out i think..

after the downlaod updates.. i tried to unzip the file... it seems whenever the download completes there are 3 re-occuring corrupted files:

! C:\Users\XXXX\TomTom\HOME\Download\map\North_America-1\North_America_2GB.zip: CRC failed in cline.dat. The file is corrupt

C:\Users\XXXX\TomTom\HOME\Download\map\North_America-1\North_America_2GB.zip: CRC failed in cname.dat. The file is corrupt

C:\Users\XXXX\TomTom\HOME\Download\map\North_America-1\North_America_2GB.zip: CRC failed in cnode.dat. The file is corrupt

XXX being my username while i replaced..

Can anyone tell me how big these files are? If possible can someone upload those file to megaupload or a sharing site? It would elp me out :p

thanks guys..

While I understand your frustration, please realize this:
1. The cline.dat file is almost 560 megs in size. For many people, ul a file of that size puts a strain on their limits with their isp's.
2. Technically, sharing that file is a breach of copyright as it is part of proprietory software.
3. Perhaps you have some bad sectors on your hard drive causing the error when you try to unzip in the same phsical location. Try this (worth a shot), change [in Home] the location for the downloads, say to c:\temp and then try the download again and see if there are problems.
4. FINALLY, call Support instead of waiting for email. Calling is also more effective.

ahh, sorry i didn't raelize it was that big of a file..

Yeah i guess i will be calling them monday morning. tried changing file locations no such luck..

Lets see what tech support says..

thanks

well have solved my problem!

The corruption was indeed due o something in my connection.

I disconnectedmy router andconnected my DSL connection directly to the computer and proceeded to downlaod the new map, worked like a charm!

Final word... got corruption? try another internet connection ordisconnect your router!:)

Wow.....that was like pulling teeth! ;)

Glad it's ok.

(And I should know by now to suggest getting dl's from direct connections rather than wireless; too many people suffer problems with the latter method).

Thanks for reporting back.

err my keyboard needs replacement lol.

yeah hopefully nobody goes through this lol..

Sorry for requesting a file that infringed copyrights, didn't realize it.

I just got VR activated as well with app 8.0 and 7.20 maps.

Im a happy camper:)

thanks for the help dhn much appreciated
