hi i got a macbook with dual boot OS (mac and windows) i just tried using my tomtom with a pc for the first time, and using windows i had endless driver troubles, using mac i got some things working, a few voices installing and so on but i sometimes get an error from tomtom home that says "could not create file xxxx" and then recently got a message saying "your device is write protected" or something along those lines

who knows how to rectify this, i cannot install the software update, which i would like to do, i'd also like to continue customizing my tomtom aswell

any help appreaciated

thanks in advance

i think what has happened is that whilst being updated i had a connection problem with the device and now my maps folder is corrupt, it's 63mb's and the downloadable australian map is 90 something mb, so basically i've lost my maps, and probably need to buy new ones?

the tomtom site says that i should delete the maps from the device and check for thier availability on the tomtom home program, now if i delete the maps and they are indeed available will they be free?

If the problem came during the install process, then the map is already downloaded on your computer. Use Home-->Add maps and arrow right to items on my computer. Does it show a map? If so, click on 'more info' to see if it is the correct one. You should be able to reinstall.

Also, if you have 1 year to reinstall a purchased map since downloads do get corrupt. If you can't find the map on your computer, a call to Aussie support should cause them to add the map again to your account for downloading at no extra cost.

if i don't figure something out tonight i will call the help line tomorrow,

i did just get this error message though

Are you trying to install to your unit, or does your unit have a sd slot and disk that you are trying to install to? If a sd disk, is it locked, by any chance?

I'm afraid you will need Aussie support to help unless somebody sees this thread and can provide better assistance than I.

it doesn't have an sd slot, it has from what i have gathered a 1gb internal memory, and i think i broke the maps that came with the unit somehow

Aussie Support:

Australia 1300 135 604 Monday - Friday: 09:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST

i will call them tomorrow morning, i hope i get this sorted without having to rebuy the maps, but if i do have to rebuy at least i am getting an operational tomtom at about half the cost :) because the unit itself was a gift,

thanks for your help i'll let you know it went

Keep retryng the application update, you should get to app 7.9 or higher (depending on your tomtom model).

Once you're at that level, tomtom's latest maps should work. If you've ever downloaded the map before, you can reinstall it on your computer per what dhn said.

What model do you have? Some of the earlier tomtom ONE Australia maps required older software to read the maps (newer software couldn't). If that is the case, tomtom phone support should walk you through downgrading to the appropriate application version. Or you could just buy a new map.
