Live Traffic DOwn ??

I'm based in Maryland, USA.

I bought TOmTOm 740 live a couple of days back. I have not been able to use tomtom LIVE traffic but I can use other LIVE services.

Each time I talk to a representative, they provide some new instructions and troubleshoot the device. Finally, one technician this morning told me that LIVE traffic service is down for past several weeks and that I should be able to use LIVE traffic once their issue is resolved.

I'm frustrated and want to check with other people if they are also experiencing problems in LIVE traffic ?? Please let me know the location as well if your serivice is working.

Look for supermod, Gatorguy, to reply to your post. I believe he has a 740 LIVE model. While the LIVE servers (based in Europe) have been sporadic the last couple of days, they have not been down for weeks.......

If Gatorguy doesn't reply within 24 hours, pm him.

No, they haven't been down for weeks. Not even days or hours. While I sometimes can't get traffic data for short periods, the service has been fairly good since I reactivated it this month. What color is the traffic bar on your 740? Any symbols? Sorry if that's an obvious question. Also note that Tomtom does not provide traffic in all areas. That could be your problem if the other services are working. Go to routes.tomtom.com and see if traffic is being shown for your area.

I tried routes.tomtom.com and I was able to plan a route.

On my TomTom Traffic, I get an error message as "Unable to Connect to the Server" error. I'm able to use other LIVE services.

I have updated Maps in my device and Customer service told me that the service was down.

Any ideas what I can do. PLEASE help

Some more info:

When I click on the right part of the screen(Yellow Warning Symbol), I get message as "Cannot connect to the server"

On going to LIVE services > Traffic, I get error 1506.

I don't know whether anything here helps.

I've also seen on a Brit forum where the remedy for somebody was to uninstall and reinstall the firmware.

I'm afraid you may have to call support (again) and ask for second level support. Don't let them feed you the malarkey about the servers being down since, as you read, Gatorguy is getting his information.

Also tell them you want compensation for the time you've been without, like an extra month once this is remedied.

I use Live Services on a month-to-month basis. On Jan 19 I subscribed for a month after going about a month without the services. The web servers promply billed my credit card for 9.95, but whenever I attempt to use live services, I get the "An error occurred on the Tom Tom server. Please try again" message.

I have called tech support twice-- days apart-- each time being told that the servers were down. When I asked for an estimated time they would be back up, I was told there was no way they could determine that. I was assured that my account would be credited for the time "they were down."

According to information in this forum, the servers may not even be down at all. Yet I can't use the service, and my month's subscription is dwindling away. After 8 days and no "live services" guess I need to call support a third time to elevate the problem and to make sure I get credit for the down time.

I'm afraid so........if you get the response that the servers are down, explain how a supermoderator here (Gatorguy) has his working in Florida.

If you get the reply that the moderator is wrong, you say 'not bloody likely' ;)

See here. There's a good chance that Jaspar wasn't re-enabled, when you reactivated your subscription (doesn't happen automatically). See the symptoms in offthegrid's post in the link and see if they match your issue.

This week I have been too busy at work during the day to call tech support back, So tonight I opted to try the hard reset option. First I backed up (using Home) and did the "factory reset."

Son of a gun, it worked: live services are functioning again. I can't figure out how to restore only my favorites from the backup rather than doing a complete restore, which I am half afraid to do. No big deal, though, as I had only a handful of saved locations, and can re-enter them as needed.

I've had several problems with TomTom subscriptions. The last time trying to update live services, my Internet connection hickuped during the checkout, leaving the transaction stuck in the shopping cart, unable to proceed. For days and days I tried to redo the subscription order, but it always failed with a cryptic error message. Finally I emailed tech support who had me delete my account and then re-create it. After a couple of weeks I tried to re-subscribe and my money was successfully accepted during checkout. But after that, I started having the "server error" problem.

Also, I was one of the unlucky ones who missed the guaranteed free map update. My son gave me a Go 740 for my birthday last summer and it was a couple of weeks old before I actually received it. By the time I got it set up with Home and figured out that my map was already more than one Quarter old, my "guarantee" had expired by about a week when I tried to use it. TT tech support had no sympathy and offered to sell me an update service for about $90. Hey, I had had the TomTom in my posession for less than a month and the map was already more than 3 months old. I declined the offer.

But with Live Services now working, I'm looking forward to checking the weather, evaluating the traffic and Googling for a place to eat breakfast here in St. Pete tomorrow morning. (I hope my old map doesn't get me lost.)
