So if I bought the 740 live, does it need to be able to connect with my cell phone to get the services?

No the x40 Live devices don't need a Bluetooth data connection to your phone instead they employ a built in GPRS modem with its own SIM card fitted within the device, all charges associated with this sevice and connection are covered as part of the monthly subscription - Mike

My "Live services" worked for about a week and now I'm getting a "problem connecting with TomTom server" error message. Only had for about 2 weeks - supposed to have 3 months free - do I need to go ahead and subscribe?
