Hi guys,

Bought TT Go730 few weeks ago from Best Buy that came with App version 8.351 and with NA map 2GB v810.1907. Attempted and downloaded latest map v840 via TT Home and intalled ok in internal memory.
Now powering up the GPS displays the message:
Select a map: No maps found!
What did I do wrong and how can I have the latest map on my device?

First, try a pin reset on the unit and see if that helps.

If not, your downloaded (840) map will be found here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\

Use WinRar to extract a file that has the extension <map name>.meta.dct and copy it to the map folder on your unit. Start the unit up and see if that helps.

Thanks Dhn!

I've tried the pin reset but it didn't seem to help.

For some reason when I use company PC at work i get this message in TT Home when try to do update device:

Error when contacting server: The connection to the TomTom server timed out.

I've downloaded the map at home PC and I'll try your second suggestion when I get home.

What is "one-time update" step when I'm updating the gps? Is it application update or map update?

You have a one-time shot at getting the newest map via the LMG.

You can update to newer applications (free) whenever they are released for your model

Failed attempts to get the LMG are not counted, right? I wish the latest map would come when I buy the device so I don't have to mess with downloading a 2GB map with so many chances that something would go wrong. A little bit frustrating.

Your works computer is probably hiding behind a firewall to a larger extent than your home computer which is often the reason that TomTom Home doesn't work at work.

As to the device being supplied with the very latest maps, this isn't really viable as you never know how long it's sat on a shelf for and the v840 map was only recently released - Mike

Dhn,

In c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\
I only found the file North_America_2GB-106.meta which I've copied to the internal memory of gps but this didn't help either. Didn't found in the zip file the file *.dct
Any other toughts?

Sounds as if you do not have a proper download of the map from your description. Start Home, move to Manage My Unit (or close) and see what is listed for the Computer tab, map. Does it show a listing for the map you think you downloaded?

Ok, in c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Map\North_America_2GB i find these files:

activation_map_51029.cab (a zipped file that actually contains North_America_2GB-106.meta.dct)
map14501-1.jpg
map14501.jpg
North_America_2GB.toc
North_America_2GB.zip

I've copied North_America_2GB-106.meta.dct to internal memory but again same error message: no maps found. I actually had also a North_America_2GB-15.meta.dct dated in 2000. First I've tried with this file on and afterwards I've delited files older than 2008 ( about 6 or 7 of them).

First of all, run the Clear Flash tool 3 times. Download and install it from here:
tomtom.com/6211

Then start your unit and see if that helps.

If not, use Explorer to move your map folder from the unit to the pc and use the information in this link to reinstall without using Home.

Thaks Dhn. After running lear Flash and doing a Explorer installation the gps was stuck at the startup screen. Restored the original backup and it works fine. I'm frustrated with updating to map v840. The only time I can call TT service it while at work but then i don't have the possibility to have the unit connected via TT Home. LMG is dissapointing to me....appreciate your help Dhn!

I don't know if this will help, but when i updated my new 730 to map v840, I got the same result. The machine booted patially but stalled on a screen that said "no maps found". I purposely had not yet updated the operating system, because some had said that FM transmission was deleteriously affected by the new OS. But when I got the "no maps found" screen, I reasoned that maybe the new map wasn't supported by the old OS. So I updated to the latest OS, and then the machine booted up with the new map just fine. Haven't had any problems since. One thing I notice is that now I only have three computer voices, (all female, one English, one Spanish, one French). No human voices at all. I wonder if when updating to the new OS all the human voices were automatically deleted to make room for the newest map.

In early '09 many complaints were made that the 2 GB internal memory did not have room for a new map unless some of the voices were deleted. Anyway, after I updated the OS, my previously updated map, which had initially given the "no maps found" screen, then worked fine. Whatever you do, make sure you back up the download of the new map, because as I understand it, you don't get a second chance to download it. Do a manual backup.

Welcome to TTF and thanks for your feedback. I guess you know you can use Home to remove computer voices you don't want and download the human voices you do want.

Thanks, RZMN. I have the latest application though,8.351. I think you get to install successfuly the latest map once but if you installation fails you can still download it. I've downloaded the map 3 times already. Last time I've downloaded the map it didn't install it on the external memory as I selected it but tried the internal one and didn't have enough space and failed to install it. On the SD card I've restored what was in internal memory, map v810.

Victory! I got the latest map working on my unit! What I did was to backup the GPS with TOMTOM Home and restore it back on the memory card. Then download the map again and this time it installed it on the memory card. Cycle powered the unit and verified the map version and that was it. I feel better now:) Thanks a bunch Dhn for your help, I appreciate your willingness to help. Thanks to you too RZMN.
