Hi all,

I'm not a tom tom owner as yet, I'm looking for some information/help before buying.

If live out in the country, in the Lake district UK so its quite a lonng trek out to go and view units in a store, so because of that I am limited to buying online...no problem doing that..but a huge problem assessing how well the units work. A few questions if you'll indulge me.

1. Can I install another mapping application onto a tom tom, the mapping I have in mind is called memory map Welcome to Memory-Map Navigation Software : Digital Maps for PCs and Pocket PCs

2. How can I view Tom Tom maps to check out the level of detail contained within...especially if I cant do No1 above or get to a store?

The tom tom I want ideally will not only get me to places via roads but must be able to assist off road too..ie for walking the hills and mountaions here in Cumbria UK....far from the nearest road. These are the areas I would really like to be able to see the level of detail on tom tom maps.

Hello.......

Sounds as if the TomTom brand is not for you. TT's are meant as road gps units and, as such, will not be able to route you off roads. Further, only TomTom maps work in the units.
