Is the XL330S obsolete already?

I received the XL330S as a gift, connected it to the computer, tried to install the upates and got the message that I needed to free up memory to install updates, is there files it doesn't need or is this a sign that I have a useless obsolete unit? Seems like poor planning.

You certainly can delete any voices you don't want to use. Be sure and keep the computer voice, the only one that is capable of text to speech.

Actually, I think the XL 330S is a fairly new model. It's similar to the newer ONE models, in that it has 1GB of memory and no SD slot. The newest USA and Canada map is about 50-60MB larger than the old one, which is why it doesn't fit along with the other stuff the device comes with. I ended up removing the points of interest, which I don't use anyway. Another option is to use a smaller, regional map; although if you travel widely that might not work too well.

Thanks, it just seems odd that we have to delete stuff right out of the box. I hope it doesn't get worse.

I have exactly the same problem. I would rather not delete my POIs but "downgrading" my map to just the USA or just my region of the country means I have to fork over more money. I wish I could just trade for a smaller map.

Oh, and the text-to-speech voice is the biggest one, taking around 30 MB while the recorded voices are around 0.7 MB each... so deleting them won't help much.

The first thing I did, after backing up, was remove my Guam map. Never been there, don't know anyone there, don't plan to go there in my lifetime... Being French speaking, I deleted Suzan to make room for Juliette. Then I got my SD card and was able to load a few different voices, the large POI from the GO 9x0 etc.
