Is New Map worth it?

My new 720 has the 710.1584 map preloaded and everything works well including the voice recognition routine. Do you think the new 720.1803 map is worth the risk of interfering with a machine that is working so well?

New Map

Tom Tom just released that version just after I purchased the 7.15 and when I called to see if the upgrade was worth it, I was told the 7.20 maps made some serious map corrections to Florida and recommended I keep what I had and use MapShare to keep my maps current.

Only you can determine if the cost is worth the upgrade but if you are receiving Mapshare updates, my guess would be to stay with what works for you. If you are not getting Mapshare updates then it may be a good investment.

Is it way off the mark for potential purchasers of a map update to be able to view on-line new maps? That way one can decide that the upgrade is worth the cost.

Each of us probly knows of a couple of streets or addresses that dont appear in ones current map. It bugs us even though in the big scheme of things it probly isnt a big deal. But knowing that a new map includes the previously omittted streets can lead to a sale.

The folks at TeleAtlas (who produce the base maps used by TomTom) told me it's supposed to work this way:
once they release a quarterly 'raw' map to TomTom for post-processing, they update their Map Insight page with the new images.

Not sure how quickly after these updates occur, but, in theory, we should be able to check the roads before buying.

R?

I did make the upgrade after the 30% off announcement. I, however had 6.15 (I believe that was it). Lots of new streets. i am actually driving on streets on tyhe TT and not open fields. I think it was worth it. My old map was not map share applicable either.

map updates are always worth it. teleatlas is constantly improving their maps (especially with the addition of all the user provided information), so every tomtom map update from here on out i'd say is definitely worth it.

I would wait for the first version of TeleAtlas after they got bought by TomTom.
TomTom just released corrections, made by users, to TeleAtlas recently. They used to keep these info for themselves.

How do I tell which version of a map I have?

Tap the satellite bars on your unit. The next screen shows the version number of the firmware installed. Now, tap THAT screen and the next shows the map version and build installed.

There are other ways to find out but the two tap method is fastest, in my opinion.
