hi folks.. i recently tried to be really clever and "update maps" on my tom tom xxl europe,using tom tom home i connected tom tom to my computer and followed instructions , it appeared that contents of sat nav was passed to a file in my computer then the updated file was to be down loaded back ??? however after a while the progress bar moving left to right on my computer stopped and it displayed a ERROR i have tried again several times (wireless) and even tried with a direct etheral?? lead to the computer but i get the same thing . is it totally broke? can a luddite like myself save it or can someone recomend somewhere to have it sorted at a reasonable cost?.as a driver i do miss it and have purchased one of the less expensive (cheap) ones to use while i get the tom tom sorted,while the cheapy is okay i much prefer the tom tom . thanks

Did you have a backup prior to trying for the update?

Do you see the downloaded map in compressed format here on your computer:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\

hi i have a compressed file tom tom2winlatest andTT file folder 1,71gb does this mean anything?? thanks

The latter might be ....... about the right size. What is the precise name of that 1.7 file? The former is just the version of Home.

fouind the link and printed it off .....however i`m afraid it was above my head i then managed to get phone no for tom tom tech advice,but automated msg tells me opening hours are 9am to 5pm. i leave home around 6.30 am and return between 5.30 and 6 pm . on the advice of others i uninstalled and re-installed tom tom home and tried again. 1) download tt application ..... ok 2) install to hard disc....gets apprx 3/4 way through and stops (an improvement).then tells me that there is a error and click here for advice ,i am then asked to choose to use one of two programmes?? both of which are not able to be read ?????? may either pay a repair centre or simpley throw in the back of a drawer with the other junk thanks for taking the time and your suggestions syramax:thumb:
